Chapter 6

After Kevin and Kristy separated from their prolonged embrace, Kristy introduced all the guys to Toni. They chatted and laughed as a group, all the guys vying for the girls' attention.

Except Kevin. He contributed when appropriate, but mainly just watched Kristy intently. It was unreal. He'd met her only minutes ago, but he already felt like he knew her from her story. And he felt like she really knew him too. All the things she'd written about what he wanted in a woman were true. Their characters had connected so perfectly in the story, he couldn't help but wonder if they could do the same in real life.

Denise came in the room over an hour later. The atmosphere was very different than when she'd left. The girls were relaxed and animated, and the boys really looked like they were enjoying themselves. She smiled as she watched the looks Kevin and Kristy exchanged. She caught Brian's eye and he elbowed Nick, then she winked at both of them. They grinned back at her and turned to smile at Kristy and Kevin, who had moved their conversation to the couch. "Sorry to have to end the party," Denise interrupted, "But it's time to start getting ready."

Kristy rose from the couch and grabbed her purse, ready for her and Toni to go stand in line outside.

"Why don't ya stay back here with us until right before the concert?" Kevin suggested. "You can chill with us for awhile."

Kristy smiled, thrilled to spend even a minute more with him. She and Toni followed the boys to a large room with props, costumes and sound equipment everywhere. "I have to get into costume... promise you'll wait here?"

"I promise," she laughed and made a small "x" over her heart, "Cross my heart." Kevin laughed and ran off to change.

Kristy sagged against the wall, and turned to Toni and grinned sheepishly. "Are you having an OK time? I feel like I'm abandoning you."

"Hon, I'm a big girl... I can amuse myself. Besides," she added, "I've hardly been alone!"

"Howie's pretty cute, ya know," Kristy giggled.

"And don't forget sweet," Toni smiled broadly and laughed, "Speaking of 'sweet'... I think someone's sweet on you!"

Kristy just smiled, she knew this was all to good to be true, so she just wanted to savor every moment until it ended.

Kevin returned a little after the rest of the guys. "Sorry," he said as he came to stand by Kristy, "I had to deal with some last-minute pre-show stuff."

"Oooh, sounds important!" Kristy teased.

He grinned down at her, "It is. You'll see. So, wanna help me?"

"Help ya with what?" she asked, following him over to the piano.

"I need to warm up... will you sing with me?" Kevin asked, smiling sweetly, revealing the small dimples in his cheeks... Kristy loved dimples.

She was already sitting next to him on the piano bench, otherwise she thought she might have collapsed.

"I KNOW you know the words," Kevin said as he started playing the opening lines of "From This Moment On." Kristy and Kevin sang it together just as they had in Kristy's story. Kristy relaxed after the first verse and focused on the music, the words, and of course, Kevin.

Kristy and Toni were escorted to their incredible seats by one of the BSB private security guards just before the Boys went on. They had stayed backstage through the opening act, listening to the guys harmonize as they warmed up. They even stayed for the group prayer. Howie had stood next to Toni, and Kevin had held Kristy's hand through the pre-concert ritual and hugged her tightly before they went to take their places. The crowd screamed in anticipation of the Boys' entrance and as they were lowered onto the stage from the rafters, the roar was deafening. But Kristy didn't care. She'd gotten to meet the Backstreet Boys in person and she knew she'd never forget it.

They started the show by singing several songs off their new album, "Millennium," and Kristy and Toni danced and sang along with the rest of the crowd. The only difference was, that each of the guys sang and danced and waved back to them more than they did to anyone else.

Then came the time in the show for their individual performances. AJ led off and Kristy took a moment to check out the arena. It was very futuristic in it's decor for the concert. It was also very crowded. She and Toni laughed as they read some of the signs that were held up and hanging from the different levels.

Howie was next. He sang and knelt at the edge of the stage and handed Toni and Kristy each a rose, then distributed the other flowers haphazardly. He was almost finished with his song when one of the security guards approached Kristy.

"Dr. Butler?" he asked. Kristy nodded. "Please come with me."

Just then Kevin walked on stage in a black suit, looking extremely handsome. The security guard led Kristy off to a side area and she was so disappointed she wasn't going to get to see Kevin up close during his solo... if at all... she was almost near tears.

Kevin took the microphone and wandered across the front of the stage and back as he spoke. "During this part of the show, I usually do a song called 'Nobody But You'." A cheer went up from the crowd. "But tonight I'm not going to. Instead, I'd like to play a song for ya'll that I wrote a while back, but until very recently, never had the right words for."

The security guard had stopped near one of the ends of the stage. Kristy watched as Kevin crossed the stage towards her end. He seemed to be looking right at her.

"And I'd like to introduce you to the special woman who gave my song it's words and a new life... my Angel of Music, my Princess." Kevin stepped towards her and held out his hand, "Kristy, will you please join me?"

Kristy simply stood there and tried to make sense of what was happening. She was almost certain she'd wake up any minute and discover it was all just a wonderful dream. The security guard nudged her towards the stairs and Kevin offered her his hand to lead her on stage. They crossed the stage to the piano and Kristy sat beside Kevin as he played "Once Upon a Time." He sang all four verses, just as she'd written them, even adjusting the placement of the chorus and changing keys in between verses as she'd mentioned in her fanfic. Kristy smiled tenderly at Kevin, tears welling up in her hazel eyes... now because of happiness. Kevin knew there was an entire coliseum full of people listening to him sing, but he was only singing for Kristy.
