Chapter 17 - We've Got It Goin' On
We walked down Ellen's street together in silence and it felt good to be around him again. Even if we werent speaking, it felt so comfortable to be with him.
"S... so ahm... how have you been after... well... the whole mall-collapsing-on-us ordeal?"
He looked at me and took off his sunglasses. "Well, I had my right arm broken in three different spots, and then of course there was the amnesia... but it went away pretty quickly... thank god... it was so strenuous to try to remember who everyone was... I'm glad that I recognized my mom right away... How about you... there was this beam on your leg right...? You seem to walk just fine now... " he asked me and I smiled.
"Yes, there was, and I was to walk about on crutches for a while but after some real intensive revalidation I'm fine again... 'n I'm glad that I finally know you're doing okay too... I often wondered what you were doing now, and if your memory had returned again..." I blushed a bit after that confession because it kind of showed my true feelings that I had started developing for him...
"I have to admit that I had to think about you quite a lot as well, wondering if you had come out of that building alive... but no one could tell me... "
My heart skipped a beat when he told me that. I never expected to see him again... and now here we were walking towards the waterfall in Vondel park on a beautiful sunny afternoon...
We talked about the things we were doing right now, he told me about the band and the tour they were on... he didn't tell me everything though... he didn't speak a word about Karen... He thought about her though... he couldn't get her out of his mind, he didn't know what to say to her. He had never told her about the girl he had met a few months ago.
After a while we sat down on a bench and had gotten into this conversation about being home sick, I told him I really had missed my mom and dad and friends a lot when I was in America and that was why I was in Holland right now... I didn't tell him that I had also left the country to forget about him.
He drew a sharp breath and took my hand in his. "I... I actually really missed you... a lot... after those three days in hell... I missed talking to you, your company..." his voice was almost too soft to be heard when he suddenly confessed this to me.
But I heard him and knew that he had the same feelings as I had... "I have missed you too... and I guess I was scared to see you again because I was afraid things would be different now your memory is back, now we're not in that basement anymore..." I had one of his hands in mine and played with his rings too afraid to look up at him after I had told him this. It had been so stupid of me to think a thing like that, because clearly he hadn't changed... he was still the same guy that had been stuck with me in that same building.
"I was afraid too. Afraid that I'd never see you again... that I'd never talk to you again... after we were separated this big void appeared in my heart and I just knew I had to find you again and tell you how much I'd like to have you in my life..."
I stared at him after this and didn't know what to say... I even had the feeling that I had lost the ability to speak English...
He smiled at me nervously. "Are you okay? About this I mean..." he asked me and I just smiled.
I couldn't help but smile with all those butterflies tickling me inside.
"C... can I please kiss you?" he almost whispered when he was slowly closing in, I nodded slightly and got the feeling I was drowning in his eyes.
I carefully ran my fingers through his bleached blond hair and softly brushed my lips across his. He let out a sigh that almost sounded like a whimper and I pulled him closer His hands softly caressed my back while he gently deepened the kiss...
All of the sudden his cellphone disturbed the moment.
"Speak now or forever hold your breath..." he almost barked into the phone...
In the meantime I was secretly hoping that the person would actually take his advice and wouldn't say anything so he could hang up again...
But no such luck, it was Brian, who called to say that the taxi for the airport was leaving soon and that they were expected to hop on the plane in an hour... It was an hour's drive from where we were now... so he'd better hurry...
Bri' asked him where he was and told him that the cab would pick him up at the main entrance...
"I really have to go now... but I don't want to... not now we're finally together again... Are you sure you can't come with me to the airport?" he looked so sad that I couldn't help but kiss him again.
"No, I can't I still have a lot of stuff to do I'm sorry." I said wishing I could come with him. "But you'll be back... and I'll be waiting... Now let's go 'n find you that cab." I whispered and gave him a hug. After that I took his hand in mine and he reluctantly followed me out of the park.
The cab wasn't there yet and soon he wrapped me in his arms again for a long tender kiss... Soon a carhorn disrupted our kisses and he looked up.
"I'm gonna have to need your address and phone number... " he said trying not to feel rushed by the cabdriver who was already looking very impatient.
I searched my bag for some paper and a pen. But all I found was my black permanent marker.
"That'll do... write it on the back of my shirt..." he said and took off his coat so I could write my address, E-m@il address and digits on the back of his t-shirt.
"Now as for yours..." I said taking off my coat and soon I had his stuff scribbled on the back of my shirt.
"Okay... time to go... I'm gonna call you as soon as possible okay?"
"I'll be waiting for your call... Now go, you're gonna miss your flight..." I said with pain in my heart and said goodbye to him for the last time with a big hug and a tender kiss...
