Hearts Don't Lie Chapter 6 "And 5,6,7,8! Turn, hit cross....." Fatima barked, watching the guys dance. "Dammit Kev! You should know this by now! Do you want to look like an ass on national television?" she cried. Kevin stumbled and caught up with the others in the dance. AJ glanced at him and shrugged. "AJ! Eyes front!" another command was yelled out. Finally, the dance was over. Fatima glared at the guys. "Well that sucked." "God Fatima! We are doing the best we can!" AJ cried, his temper flaring. "The show is on two weeks gentlemen. Obviously you'll have to work harder. Take 15 minutes," she stormed out of the studio. Brian let out a deep breath. "Well isn't that special!" AJ grabbed a towel and wiped the sweat off his face. "I love 'Tima to death, but what a bitch!" Kevin sat on the floor. "It's my fault. Sorry guys, I just have a lot on my mind." "Is it Kristin?" Brian asked. Kevin's head shot up in surprise. "No! Why do you say that?" "Kev, you've talked to her every night since she left. Is there something going on between you two?" Brian continued. Kevin became sullen. "We're just friends." "Well, since we brought her up, who are you taking to the awards show?" AJ asked. "I hadn't really thought about it," Kevin replied. "Ask Kristin. I'm sure she'd go with you," Nick suggested. "That's just what I was thinking," Howie said. "Ask Kristin? She wouldn't go with me." "Why not? I'm sure she'd love to go and see you again," Nick said. "Ask her tonight when you call her," Brian suggested. "How do you know I'll talk to her tonight? I don't always have to!" Kevin said, getting frustrated. "Because you do every night!" they all exclaimed. Kevin got up. "I'll be back," he grumbled. He quickly walked out of the dance studio, mumbling to himself. He didn't know what made him so frustrated. He and Kristin were just friends. He hadn't been thinking about her. No, yes he had. He couldn't stop thinking about her. "What's his deal?" Nick asked to no one in particular. "It's pretty obvious if you ask me," Howie replied. "Huh?" Nick asked. AJ patted his young friend on the back. "So young and still at times, clueless." "Nick, Kevin's starting to fall for Kristin. He's too stubborn to realize it right now," Brian said. Fatima walked into the studio at that moment with Kevin right behind her. "Are we ready gentlemen? I want to go home soon, and we're not leaving until you get this right!" she ordered. The rehearsal continued for another hour before Fatima was satisfied. She smiled at the guys. "Thanks you gentlemen. I'll see you tomorrow at noon." Kevin grabbed his stuff and started to walk to his 4 Runner. Brian caught up with him. "Hey Kev!" he called, running to catch up with his cousin. Kevin turned and waited for Brian. "Kev, are you upset with us?" Kevin shrugged. "Well Kev, let me just tell you this. Sometimes friends make the best lovers. But that really isn't my point. If you want to have a good time at the show, ask her to come. I know she will. Even if you just want to go as friends....." "Which is what we are!!" Kevin snapped. "Fine, then just go as friends. I'll leave you at that. Goodnight Kevin. I'll see you tomorrow." Kevin got into his truck and drove home. Why was everyone obsessing about he and Kristin? They were just friends. Still, as much as he hated to admit it, he wanted to ask her to be his date. She was a wonderful. She never seemed to be phased that he was indeed THE Kevin Richardson. The more he thought of her, the more wonderful she seemed. She was pretty. She was well educated. She loved music. And she was becoming one of his best friends. When he got home, he jumped into the bathroom for a quick shower. Once he was done, and changed into pajama pants, he grabbed the portable phone and dialed the number he dialed every night. "Hello?" the familiar and comforting female voice answered. "This is Rent-A-Hunk, confirming your order for a stud, extra manly." "Kevin!" "Hey girl. How are you? Did I wake you?" "Nope, it's only 9:45. Did Fatima keep you late tonight?" "You know it." "I feel bad Kev. But you'll look good on t.v. I plan on watching that when it's on." "Well, I'm glad you brought that up. I'm supposed to bring as they reserved 10 seats for us....." "Who are you bringing? Did you meet someone?" "No, actually I was going to ask you if you wanted to come with me. Not so much as a date, but as my friend." Kristin was silent. Kevin wanted to bring her? She blurted out the first word that came to her: "Why?" Kevin was taken aback. "Oh Kev, that came out wrong. What I meant was why me? Wouldn't you rather someone else?" "No." He paused. "I'd rather go with someone I know I'll have fun with. K, we've known each other for almost 3 weeks and I feel I can tell you anything. I really don't want to beg. Will you please come?" "Wow. What am I going to wear?" "Is that a yes?" "Of course Kevin. I can't wait to see you again." They talked for about a half-hour more, finalizing plans. When they hung up, they both took deep breaths. In two separate states, about 1,300 miles away, at the exact same time, they said the same thing with fear and longing: "Am I ready for this?"Next: Chapter 7 |
