Hearts Don't Lie Chapter 4 Later that night, the group sat by the pool relaxing. Brian was playing his guitar lightly. Everyone had found a chair or a comfortable spot on the ground. Kevin looked at Kristin, who was talking quietly with Gillian. "K?" he asked, tentatively using her nickname. "Yeah Kev?" she said, her eyes warmly smiling at him, letting him know it was ok to call her that. "I have to ask. You knew who I was the second you saw me, but you haven't acted like a typical fan would. You didn't scream and yell, and this really doesn't seem to phase you at all. So, I guess what I'm asking is are you a fan?" Mattie started giggling uncontrollably. Kristin joined in. "Well, I had no idea that I was actually pulling it off and hiding my genuine excitement. Damn, I guess I'm pretty good then! But, yeah, guilty as charged. I am a huge fan." Kristin said, slightly embarrassed. "It's ok to admit that you're a fan and be excited. It just really spooks us when people go nuts. I think we were all so thankful that you acted normally around us," Nick said. "If that's the case, then there's something K and I have been holding in for maybe the past 4 hours or so. Please excuse us for a second," Mattie giggled. "AUGH! OH MY GOD!" both girls screamed. Everyone started laughing. "Feel more at ease fellas?" Kristin asked. "Much," Howie laughed. "Well that answers the question about those two girls. What about you Gillian?" AJ asked. "To be honest, I've learned to tolerate your music because of those two. No offense to any of you guys personally, but it's not the music I normally listen to," Gillian truthfully answered. "None taken. It's not music I really listen to either," AJ said. Kristin glanced up when she heard familiar music being played from Brian's guitar. "I love that song," she whispered. "'Annie's Song'. You know it?" Brian asked. She nodded. Mattie nudged her. "Sing Kristin," she said softly. Kristin shook her head. "Not here, not now." Howie leaned over. "K, sing. At least the first verse. I'm sure one of us knows a harmony for the second verse." Kristin looked to Brian. He nodded and began the intro again. Kristin began to sing, softly at first, and refusing to make eye contact with anyone. You fill up my senses, like a night in the forest. Like a mountain in springtime, like a walk in the rain. Like a storm in the desert, like a sleepy blue ocean. You fill up my senses, come fill me again. Come let me love you, let me give my life for you. John Denver: "Annie's Song" She glanced up when she was finished. No one moved. "No one did a harmony with me," she softly protested. "No way. It was too pretty," Kevin whispered. Brian let out a deep breath. "Wow. How about something everyone knows?" "Hey where did we go? Days when the rains came....." soon everyone was joining in on a rousing rendition of "Brown-Eyed Girl". After the song, Kevin stood up and stretched. "I'm going to take a swim. Does anyone want to join me? Kristin?" He didn't give her a chance to answer. He grabbed her around the waist and threw her into the pool. She shrieked and came up sputtering. "What the hell?!" "Hey, you look lonely! How about a friend?" Nick called and tossed Mattie in before she could object. "I hardly think so Carter. Why don't you join them?" Gillian pushed Nick in and dove in after, before someone could get her. Soon, regardless of whether or not they wanted to go swimming, everyone was in the pool. For about an hour, they splashed around. The guys chased all the girls around, trying to dunk them. Nick chased Mattie into the corner. "Nick!" she shrieked. Kristin laughed and hauled herself out of the pool and sat on the ledge. Kevin swam over to her. "You know Kev, that really wasn't fair throwing me in the pool like that." He splashed her and she shrieked. "You looked like you needed to cool off," He pulled himself out of the pool and sat next to her. Kristin's pulse raced, seeing the water run off his rock-hard, well defined body. Suddenly, she felt self-conscious. "You have a beautiful voice, K." "Not really, I just like that song." "Yes, really." He got up and grabbed a towel. She stood up and he tossed her a towel as well. "Thanks," she said. "It was nothing. The towel was right here and I couldn't let you drip and freeze. It's getting a little cold." "I don't just mean that Kev. I mean for inviting me here, and telling me that I have a pretty voice." He stepped up close to her. "Anytime," he whispered. She instantly became flustered and was grateful when Howie called for a towel. She stepped back, her cheeks burning. Everyone headed inside Brian's house for dinner. The Florida natives had started to complain of the cold. The Massachusetts natives just laughed. "Hell, this is still warm to us! We left home with about a foot of snow on the ground," Gillian laughed. Everyone was gathered in Brian's kitchen eating dinner. Leighanne glanced at the girls. "You know, it would be a shame not to have any proof of the whole encounter. Do you want me to take some pictures of y'all and the guys?" she asked. "Really? That would be great!" Mattie said. Kristin dug in her bag and handed Leighanne the camera. Leighanne snapped pictures of the Backstreet Boys with the 3 girls and Mattie and Kristin with the guys. Mattie took one with Leighanne, Amanda and the guys, and somehow they managed to one with all 10 of them. For the rest of the night, candid pictures were constantly snapped by anyone who grabbed the camera. Around 11, everyone was heading home. Howie agreed to take the girls back, as he had to go right by the hotel. As the girls finally entered their room, Mattie collapsed on one of the 3 beds. "That was well worth the sunburn I now have," she said tiredly. "Not bad for our 2nd day of Spring Break," Kristin added. Gillian laughed and flopped onto another bed. "But tomorrow can we finally go to the Magic Kingdom?" They all laughed.Next: Chapter 5 |
