Chapter 19

Kristin adjusted her sunglasses to cover her swollen, bloodshot eyes. She stepped out of the car and looked up at the Longwharf Marriott Hotel.

"Miss, if you'll go right inside, someone will show you upstairs. We'll take care of your bag," the driver said softly.

She nodded and thanked him. She went inside and went to the front desk.

"Miss Donovan?" the young woman at the desk asked. Kristin nodded.

"You're looking for room 515. That elevator should take you there."

Kristin took the elevator up to the 5th floor. As the door chimed open, Kristin was surprised to see both AJ and Howie talking out in the hall. They both turned at the sound of the elevator. Kristin walked up to them.

"You came," AJ quietly said, hugging her.

Tears slipped down her cheeks, but still, she smiled. "What could I do? He begged on the radio," she smiled.

"But do you still love him?" Howie asked.

"Oh Howie, more than anything."

Howie hugged her. "That's my girl," he responded.

"Where is his room?" she asked.

"Right here."

Kristin stood in front of room 515. AJ and Howie walked away. She took a deep breath and knocked lightly. The door flew open. Kevin looked at her and stepped back to let her in. She closed the door behind her.

"You came," he whispered, fell on his knees and started to sob.

He wrapped his arms around her waist and cried on her stomach. She held him and ran her fingers through his hair.

"Shh, Kevin. It's ok, I'm here," she whispered, crying with him. She lowered to her knees and held him close. She buried her head in his neck.

"Why did you come back?" he whispered.

"Because you complete me," she paused. "Not to sound like Jerry Maguire or anything."

He laughed. "Don't ever leave me again. I don't think I could survive."

"Only if you never give me cause to."

Kevin looked into her eyes. "I promise."

He cupped her cheek in his hand and gently brought his lips to hers. As he kissed her, a sob escaped her lips. He held her tightly.

"I didn't think I'd ever be happy again," she whispered.

"I promise you nothing but happiness from this point on."

Kristin reached over and dug for something in her purse. She held out a small box to him.

"What's this?" he asked.

"It's something I bought for you a long time ago, but the time wasn't right. Please open it."

He opened the box and his eyes filled with fresh tears. A silver claddgah ring gleamed up at him. It was the exact copy of Kristin's except his was silver and hers was gold.

"Kristin....."

"I thought you may want one. I bought it when we were in Ireland. I wanted something for you that had meaning. The crown means loyalty, the heart love and the hands friendship. When you're with someone you love the heart is supposed to point towards you. That means your heart belongs to someone. I'll understand if you don't want to wear it that way for publicity's sake."

Kevin laughed. "I begged you to come back on the radio, I don't think it's a secret anymore. Will you do the honors?"

Kristin slipped the ring on his finger with the heart facing towards him. He leaned over and kissed her.

"I love you Kristin, with every beat of my heart."

"I love you too Kevin."

He glanced at his watch. "Christ! We have sound check in 30 minutes!"

He jumped up. Kristin moved to sit on the bed. He turned to look at her and his eyes softened.

"Are you coming with me?"

"Can I?"

Kevin walked over to her and hugged her. "I'd like to see someone stop you from coming. Kristin, I meant what I said. I really do love you more than anything."

Kevin led Kristin downstairs to where the tour bus was waiting. Everyone was already on the bus.

"I thought I was going to have to come up and get you, and detach you two," Brian joked.

"We made it, emphasis on WE," Kevin replied.

"Where are the girls?" Kristin asked.

"Amanda, Leighanne and Claudia are flying in probably as we speak. They're meeting us at the Fleet Center in awhile. As for Mattie, she said she'd be there around 5:30," AJ explained.

Nick came over and hugged her. "I'm glad you're back."

"Thanks Nick."

Within minutes, they were at the Fleet Center. The guys headed right for the stage.

"This may be boring," Kevin said, leading Kristin to the audience.

"It's ok Kev. The girls will be here soon. Plus, I can go shopping if need be. What time will you be heading backstage for good?"

"I think dinner's at 5:30 and we'll just stay backstage then. We go on officially at 9. Meet us for dinner if I don't see you again. I love you baby," he leaned over and kissed her softly.

She smiled and settled down in a seat. Kevin jumped up on stage and was handed a mike. She dug in her bag and pulled out a book.

"Kristin!" a voice cried.

Kristin turned in her seat to see Amanda, Claudia and Leighanne running to her. It was an emotional reunion for the girls. All four girls were crying. Everyone stopped to look at them. The guys had known how close the four of them were, but now they understood just how much they meant to each other.

"K!" another voice cried.

"Matts!" Kristin yelled back and raced to hug her.

"I came early. I called you and you weren't home, so I hoped you'd be here," Mattie explained beginning to cry too. The five girls embraced.

Brian rested his hand on Kevin's shoulder. Kevin turned to him, his eyes bright with tears.

"She came back Kevin," he said.

"I know Bri, I know."
