Hearts Don't Lie Chapter 16 "And just to update, the Backstreet Boys' 'Into the Millennium' tour has finally kicked off. Due to the hurricane, the first few shows had been cancelled and will be added onto the end of the tour. The first night went well except for a slight mishap with Kevin Richardson's pants....." Kristin clicked off the t.v. "Who cares," she grumbled. It had been two weeks since she left Kevin. It was so hard living like this. She felt like she was hiding from everyone. Kevin tried to call her everyday, several times a day, for over a week. She never answered the phone. She had told him that it was over; what more did he want? It was almost bittersweet when he stopped calling. She was grateful for the silence, and yet in a way, crushed that he had given up. The others had tried to call her as well. She only talked to Leighanne once, and told her that she wold call them when she was ready. Leighanne said they understood and they missed her. The Millenium tour had two days in Boston, would she be there? Kristin honestly didn't know. Well, at least could the girls get together? Kristin told her yes. Kristin smiled thinking about Mattie and Nick. Apparently Nick was calling Mattie several times a week. Mattie would be attending both Boston shows and begged Kristin to join her. At times like this, she wished Brian were around so that they could discuss their soon-to-be success as matchmakers. Kristin jumped as the phone rang. She checked Caller-ID and answered it once she knew it wasn't Kevin. "Hello?" she answered. "Ms. Donovan please." "This is she." "Ms. Donovan, so good to talk to you again. This is Ray Walker of Walker and Kranst." "Oh yes! The Public Relations firm I interviewed with. How are you sir?" "Very well, thank you. I wanted to apologize for not getting back to you for so long. You see, interviewing was a very involved process this time." "That's quite alright. I'm so glad you were able to get back to me." "Ms. Donovan, we'd like to offer you a position with us. Starting salary is $40,000 a year. We'd like you to join us on October 5th. I know that's about a month from now, but we're beginning a new project then that you'd be perfect for....." he continued to talk. Kristin couldn't believe it; $40,000 a year? "Ms. Donovan, what do you say?" "Mr. Walker, would you mind if I took a day to consider?" "If money's an issue....." "No sir, it's not that. I have a personal belief that I need to take a day to consider anything and to sleep on it. Then I know that I've made the right decision on a clear mind." "By all means Ms. Donovan. Please consider it." "I will sir. I'll call you tomorrow morning. Thank you so much." She hung up the phone, bewildered. This was something she had not planned on.
