Hearts Don't Lie Chapter 15 Amanda led Kristin and Mattie to a guestroom in AJ's home. "K, you can stay in this room. Matts, the one on the other side of the bathroom is yours," Amanda said. "Thanks," Mattie said. "Kristin, Brian went to Kev's to get your things. He'll bring them here. You really don't have to leave. You can stay here as long as you like," Amanda offered, sitting down next to Kristin. Mattie sat down on the other side of Kristin. "Thanks Amanda, but I really just want to go home," she started to cry again. "This wasn't supposed to happen to us. We were so happy. I was going to spend 3 weeks with him. I was even going to move down here. God, what am I going to do now?" she sobbed. "You'll go home and regroup. Whatever happens will happen," Amanda whispered, hugging her. "Why did he do that? I hate him so much right now!" she sobbed. "I'm not defending him K, but I think he was trying to protect you from everything. I think he's scared," Amanda said. "He's an ass," Mattie growled. Kristin laughed gently. "He is. I just don't think I can take him back." "I know," the other two girls said. The doorbell rang downstairs. After a few seconds AJ called up to the girls. "Brian and Leighanne are here with your things!" Kristin got up and went down the stairs. Leighanne hugged her. "Will you be ok?" she asked. "Eventually," Kristin admitted. Brian hugged her. "When do you go back?" "Tomorrow morning. Mattie said she'd come back with me." "Can we at least give you a ride to the airport?" Brian asked. Kristin shook her head. "We're taking a taxi. This is something I have to do on my own." Brian's eyes filled with tears. "K, don't go. I feel like we'll never see you again. We have nothing to do with what he said. Please don't leave us too." "Oh Brian, you'll see me again. I promise you that. How can I leave you all? For now though, I have to leave. You're all connected to him and I can't be near that." Pounding on the front door made them all turn. "AJ! Let me in! I know she's there!" Kevin's voice yelled. AJ went to the door and opened it a crack. "Go away Kevin. She doesn't want to see you." "Dammit! Let me at least see her!" "AJ," Kristin said gently "Let him in. There's something that has to be said." AJ opened the door enough to let Kevin in. Kevin started to walk to Kristin but Brian stopped him. "That's far enough," he warned. Mattie nudged Leighanne. "Come on, let's leave them." "No, I need you all here," Kristin stopped them. "Kristin," Kevin started. "No!" she cut him off. "You've done enough talking today. Now it's my turn and you're going to listen," she said with fire in her eyes. "What you said today went beyond hurt and rejection. I don't care if you're trying to protect me or whatever. This is my call now. You're playing with the wrong person. I've tried Kevin. I did everything I could. I gave up my life for you! So guess what, I'm taking it back. I don't need this! I don't need you. You were right with what you said; you don't have a girlfriend, so don't worry about lying anymore. Good luck to you Kevin." She remained in control the entire time. She was determined not to let him see her cry. She kept eye contact with him. A single tear crept down his cheek. She wavered. If she didn't leave now, she's loose it. "Kristin," he managed to choke out. "Good bye Kevin," she firmly said, turning and heading back to her room. It was when she closed the door and fell onto the bed that she began to cry. It was over.Next: Chapter 16 |
