Hearts Don't Lie Chapter 14 Kristin sat in the audience of the talk show with Mattie, Leighanne, Claudia and Amanda. The girls were hidden some where near the back so that the audience wouldn't bother them as much. The girls were enjoying the performance of "I Want It That Way". Kristin decided that she definitely enjoyed the smaller performances better than the arena ones. Once the guys were done singing, the headed back to the chairs to talk with the host. "Hi! My name is Miranda Holt and you're watching "Chair Chat". Today I'm talking to the Backstreet Boys. Hello boys!" the host exclaimed. "Hi Miranda!" they replied. "You're on break now from the European leg of the tour. And if I'm right, you'll be visiting North America in a few weeks." "That's right. We just got back last week, and we're just relaxing with family and loved ones until we start up again," Brian said. "I'm glad you brought that up. Speaking of loved ones.....Kevin, as I understand it, you've been seen with the same girl everywhere you go. Is she someone special?" Miranda asked. Kristin tensed up. Mattie grabbed her hand. Kevin shifted around in his seat. "I can answer that," Brian volunteered. Miranda looked at him, with a raised eyebrow. "Kristin is a dear friend of ours. We enjoy her company immensely and that's why she is always seen with us," Brian said. "I see.....is that right Kevin? Is there something between you and Kristin?" Miranda coyly asked. "I think what Brian said covers it," he mumbled. Kristin squeezed Mattie's hand tightly. What the heck was going on? "K, don't worry. He's just protecting you from the public. I bet he says that he has a girlfriend though," Mattie whispered. On the stage the boys were fidgeting. Don't blow this Kev, Howie thought. "And what about girlfriends?" Miranda asked. "I'll go first. I have a girlfriend," AJ volunteered. Amanda smiled. "Me too," Brian added. Leighanne gave him a little wave. "I'm seeing someone," Howie said. Claudia blushed. "No one for me," Nick sighed. "But I'm looking." All eyes were on Kevin. This was the moment of truth. Brian willed him to say that he had a girlfriend for Kristin's sake. He knew she must have been fuming from his first comment. "Kevin?" Miranda prompted. He shook his head. "No, I don't have a girlfriend." The guys were stunned to silence. What had he done? Oh shit, he didn't just do that, Brian thought. He looked into the audience to where the girls were sitting. The look on Kristin's face broke his heart. AJ glared at Kevin. In the audience, Mattie was holding Kristin's hand. Kristin was willing herself not to react, for if she did, everyone would know. Leighanne placed an arm around Kristin and rubbed her back. "Kristin, hold on for a few more minutes. Honey, we can't get up and leave, so you're going to have to hold it in," Leighanne whispered. Kristin nodded, choking back tears. One slipped down her cheek. Amanda handed her a tissue. She still couldn't believe what she had just heard. "What....." she started to whisper. "Shh. K, if you talk now, you'll cry. We're almost done, and then we'll get out of here," Leighanne whispered. When the show finally ended, the girls rushed Kristin to the nearest ladies room. They locked the door behind them. Once Kristin knew no one but her friends were with her, she burst into tears. Mattie held her while she sobbed. Amanda rubbed her back. "I'll kill him myself!" Leighanne cried. "Why?" Kristin sobbed. "Sad to say, I think he meant well. I think he was covering his tracks and protecting you," Claudia said. Mattie glared at her. "How can you defend him?!" "I'm not! Believe me, there's nothing more I want to do then punch him out!" Claudia exclaimed. Meanwhile, backstage, Kevin was getting yelled at. "What the hell was that?" AJ screamed. "What?!" Kevin snapped. "Did you happen to see her sitting in the audience when you made that comment or did you think she may have miraculously gone deaf when you said that?" Brian yelled. "I'm trying to protect her!" Kevin yelled back. "Well you rejected her!" Howie added. "And damn near killed her too!" AJ yelled. "Nick? What do you have to say?" Kevin rounded on the last person who hadn't yelled at him yet. "You're an ass. A heartless ass Kevin." Nick growled. "I'm going to find Kristin and see if she's ok," Brian snapped, storming out of the dressing room. He found the girls in the hallway. Kristin looked awful. Her eyes were red and she was still crying. Leighanne was still holding her hand and rubbing her back. Brian walked right up to Kristin and hugged her tightly. "I'm so sorry K," he whispered. "You have nothing to be sorry for Brian," she sobbed. "K?" a new voice asked. "Oh Howie," she sobbed, and fell into his arms. "It's ok. I'm here," he whispered. "We're all here," Nick said, resting a hand on her shoulder. Kristin glanced up to see everyone standing in a protective circle around her. Kevin walked out into the hallway. "Kristin....." he started. "You don't talk to me!" she snapped. AJ placed an arm around her shoulder and glared at Kevin. In fact, they all were glaring at him. "Is there something I can do for you Kristin?" he asked, soothingly. She faced him, and began to cry again. When she got her composure, she said the hardest thing she had ever said. "Yes, you can give me a ride to the airport."Next: Chapter 15 |
