Hearts Don't Lie Chapter 10 Kevin rolled over and opened his eyes. It was 4:30 in the morning and the other side of the bed was empty. He sat up. "Kristin?" he called out. He got out of bed. He threw on a pair of boxers. He checked out the bathroom. She wasn't there. Walking down the hall, he noticed that she wasn't in her room, or any of the others either. "Kristin?" he called out softly, heading down the stairs. Going into the kitchen, he saw that the sliding door was open. He walked out into the backyard. He finally saw her sitting on a wooden bench by the pool. The sun was beginning to rise, leaving a pink line on the horizon. "Kristin? What are you doing out here? It's 4:30 in the morning," he whispered approaching her. "Kevin, did I wake you?" "No. How long have you been out here? Why are you out here?" "I've been thinking for maybe a half hour." He sat next to her. "Honey, come back to bed," he said. "I will." "Kristin, what's wrong?" She sighed and pulled her silk bathrobe tighter around her. "It's surreal." "What is?" he questioned. "This. Us. What are we? What happened?" "What do you mean? Obviously, we took our relationship to another level." "But where does this leave us come Sunday when I go back? This has suddenly become complicated." "How so?" "We shared something really special Kev. And we shared it very quickly into our relationship." "Do you regret it?" "No! Not at all. Do you?" "How can you think that honey? Let me tell you something. The day we met I felt something special. I felt a connection to you.....God it killed me when you left. "Through phone calls and visits you became my best friend. But yet, I still wanted more. I denied it, and I'm sure you did too. It was finally a conversation with Mattie that made me realize it....." "Mattie?!" she interrupted. "Actually yes. But I realized that I couldn't live without you in my life. I need to hear your voice every day. I need to see you as often as possible. I just need you. And what I'm about to say is going to leave me so open and vulnerable. Kristin, I'm so in love with you." She looked up. "You are?" He nodded. "I love you." She laughed and stood up. She walked over to the pool. Kevin became furious and started to the house. "Fine then. Goodnight," he fumed. Kristin spun around. "Kevin wait!" "What?" he snapped. "I'm not laughing at you Kev. I'm laughing at myself." She went over to him and rested a cool hand on his burning cheek. "I fell in love with you so long ago and never dreamed you'd love me back. And to think we've kept it inside for so long," she continued. "Hearts don't lie," he whispered, his eyes flushing with tears. "I love you Kevin." He leaned down and kissed her. "Come back to bed," he whispered. She nodded. They headed back inside. Kevin locked the door behind the, and led her back up the stairs to the bedroom. They curled up in each other's arms. He kissed the top of her head. "I love you baby," he whispered. "I love you too Kevin."Next: Chapter 11 |
