Friends Forever Chapter 1 "Brian?" she asked as she leaned over him. Slowly, his eyes fluttered open and a weak smile crossed his pale face. "Julie." Brian said warmly. "How are you?" she asked quietly. "Probably better then you look. What happened? Did you get hit by a truck or something?" Brian certainly hadn't lost his sense of humor in the heart surgery. "No, I got hit by a Jeep. Its license plate said B-rok and it had a bumper sticker that said something about heart surgery on it." "Gosh, it's good to see you." "I'm just glad that your okay. I haven't slept in about a week, so you'll have to excuse my appearance." "You've looked worse before. Remember that time you had the chicken pox?" "Yeah, I looked pretty bad but you looked a lot worse when you caught them and they got infected. That was in second grade." "I'd rather have had infected chicken pox then heart surgery any day though." "Did they tell you? That they found a second hole and closed it up too?" "Yeah, I think. I've pretty out of it on pain killers, the last couple of days." "I know. Yesterday, you kept calling me Darlin' and begging to tell you what to do to make things right. When I tried to tell you that I was Julie, you said you didn't care who I was or where I was from or even what I did as long as I loved you." Brian's eyes widened. "Really?" "No, you mostly slept and said you were fine." "How many years have we been friends, Julie-Angel?" "Oh gosh, I don't know. Since first grade, I guess." "That's a lot of years, Julie." "Yeah, I know." "Have I ever told you that I love you?" "No." "I do love you . . . . as a friend, of course." Brian said the last part quietly as if he hoped it wasn't true. "I love you too, as a friend." Julie blushed at this last part and looked down at her lap. "You were always such a bad liar, Julie. Do you love me? In a way other then friends?" Julie suddenly looked very flustered and quickly stood up. "Uh . . . . I-I-I have to go! I'll come back later! Bye!" she called as she fled out the door to his private hospital room. "But Julie!" he called, but it was too late. She'd already left. "I love you too." he muttered under his breath. |
