Destiny Is Everything Chapter 8 - Too Soon "So, Bri-are you gonna tell me where we're going or is it another surprise?" Danielle asked curiously. "Umm...well, I don't know yet...," Brian admitted, "Do you have any suggestions?" "Nothing special, really, but-hey-how about the pizza parlor? It's not very romantic, though," Danielle advised. "No-that's a great idea." "Yeah, right. But since you seem up to it, too, alrighty then. Let's go," Danielle said.Brian grinned at Danielle's reference to Jim Carrey's phrase in the Ace Ventura movie. As they pulled up to the lot of the pizza place, Brian led Danielle out. They made the short trip up to the restaurant. Inside the restaurant, Brian and Danielle found a small, cozy booth in the back. Shortly after, a waiter came over to them, prepared to take their order. When they had their minds made up, Brian said, "We'll have a large pepperoni, peppers, sausage, onions, and cheese pizza. With a lot of tomato sauce and extra cheese, please. And hold the anchovies." "What would you like to drink?", the waiter asked. "We'll have a pitcher of Coke." "Terrific. Your order will arrive shortly." As Brian and Danielle sat waiting for their pizza to show up, they talked some more. Ten minutes passed by when Brian reached into his left pants-pocket and took out a small jewelry box. He opened it and gingerly retrieved a silver, thirty-carat diamond ring from it. Danielle's eyes widened considerably and her mouth dropped open. "Danielle, I KNOW this is only our second date and stuff, but I've had some time to think things through-and I'm thoroughly convinced that we are meant to be together. So, Danielle, will you please be my wife and accept this ring?", Brian asked earnestly. "Br-Bri-Brian, I-I...I can't," Danielle said and then hurriedly got up and ran out the door, "Danielle!!", Brian called after her. "But, sir-your pizza's almost ready," the waiter said. "Forget about it. You eat it," Brian responded and threw twenty bucks on the table and left. When he got outside, Brian turned right and left before he spotted Danielle running away towards the right-the direction opposite his car. "Danielle! Wait-I'm sorry. I mean, I know I was risking rejection, but I didn't know you'd be mad at me for asking!", Brian called after her. He caught up to her naturally, with his athleticism and speed. He took her arm firmly in his hand and turned her head so that she was staring right into his eyes. "Brian, you didn't have to apologize. But, don't you think we are taking things a bit too fast? I mean, even though we've done so much talking and whatnot, it is only our second date," Danielle reasoned. "You're right. Forget it. I'm such a fool," and with that, Brian turned and walked away. "No, Brian. You're not. Believe me-you are so NOT a fool," Danielle said, being completely honest. When she caught up to him, Danielle cupped his chin in her hand and slightly tilted it upwards, and said," You are one of the most intelligent, gorgeous, smartest, funniest, and greatest men in the world. And I mean every word of that, Brian." She then kissed him softly on his cheek. He looked at her and said, " I'm afraid of losing you, Dani." "Oh, Brian...we'll be together, when you go. I mean, if we're both serious about it-and I know I am- we'll make it work somehow," she said gently. "Danielle?", Brian said. "Yes?" "I love you." Almost instantly, Danielle began welling up with tears. "I love you, too, Brian." They both moved closer towards each other for a heated, lengthy kiss. "Will you at least accept this ring, though? I mean, not as an engagement ring or anything, but as an "I love you" ring?", Brian offered. "Yes," Danielle said, laughing. Brian slipped the ring onto Danielle's middle finger on her left hand. "Don't dwell on my not accepting your earlier proposal, Bri. I just think that you weren't completely sure of what you were doing. I mean, you were, but for the wrong reason. So that we wouldn't be apart when you left town, right?", Danielle asked. Brian shrugged, partly because that was the truth. Danielle knew him too well, even this early on in their relationship. "But, Brian...I do love you. So much so that perhaps even I don't know how much myself," Danielle continued. Brian smiled and said, " I feel the same way." They kissed again and Danielle laid her head down on Brian's shoulder as they sat quietly under a large oak tree on a bench. "Look, there's a shooting star," Danielle pointed out, "Make a wish, Brian." A few seconds passed and Danielle asked, "What'd you wish for?" Brian said, "I didn't have to make a wish, Danielle. 'Cuz my wish already came true." "Really? What was that?", Danielle asked inquisitively. "You," Brian answered. Again, tears welled up in Danielle's large blue eyes. This time, though, they spilled over onto her cheeks. Brian gently wiped them away. "You're too good to be true. D'you know that, Brian Littrell?", Danielle whispered. She snuggled deeper into his arms, as they sat staring at the dark night sky.Next: Chapter 9 |
