All I Have To Give Chapter 12 �Oh my God, she�s waking up,� I heard someone say, though it sounded fuzzy. I slowly opened my eyes, then squinted at the bright lights around me. �Shelby!� Nick�s voice came and he was soon above me. �Are you alright?� �Huh? What happened?� I asked. I tried to sit up, but a jolt of pain went through my whole body. I gasped and laid back down. �Honey?� my mom�s voice was next and her head was opposite side as Nick�s. My dad�s was on the other side of my mom�s. When everything came clearer, I saw everyone from the party in the room. �Where am I?� �You�re in the hospital. You hit your head on the side of the pool and went unconscious,� someone explained, though I don�t know who. �Shelby, I am so, so sorry!� Marissa exclaimed. �I didn�t know you�d go flying that far! I am so sorry!� �It�s okay Marissa,� I said smiling a little. Marissa and I were pretty close and I didn�t want her feeling bad. �It doesn�t even hurt that much,� I smiled, though my head was throbbing like nothing else. Just then a doctor came in and said, �Okay, only one person in at a time, she doesn�t need any excitement.� He ushered everyone out. Marissa stayed. �Oh gosh Shelby, I feel so, so bad. I can tell you�re hurting by your eyes and those fake smiles. Please don�t be mad.� �Mari,� I said, using the nickname I made up for her. �I�m not mad. It was an accident, I know you wouldn�t do it on purpose. If you�re really trying to kill me though, that�s something different.� She smiled. �You know I�m not trying to kill you. So, you�re not mad?� �Nope.� �Oh thank God. You should have seen everyone when it happened. Nick totally freaked out. He was telling everyone where to go and what to get. When we got to the hospital, he was pacing back and forth the whole time. You�ve been here for three hours out cold.� �No way.� �Yup. Your mom was hysterical, so your dad had to calm her down, and Nick just took charge. He was telling everyone what to do, but I saw his eyes. He was scared to death.� I smiled softly. �Nick and I are best friends. I�d be the same if it happened to him.� Just then there was a soft knock at the door and Nick stuck his head in. He looked at Marissa and she nodded. �Bye Shelby, I�ll talk to ya later.� She waved a bit and went out as Nick took her place in the chair. �I guess my turn did come up to get hurt,� I joked. He didn�t laugh. �Man Shelby, I was so terrified when I saw you fall. I saw it in slow motion and I saw every little thing that happened. I thought I was gonna have a heart attack on the spot.� He looked so serious, I almost cried. �It�s alright Nick, it doesn�t even hurt that much,� I consoled. �Yeah right Shelby. You�re forgetting I know you almost better than you do. I know it hurts, I can tell by the way your acting.� �Well, I guess it hurts a little.� He gave me a Look. �Okay, it does hurt.� Another Look. �Fine, I feel like my head�s about ready to explode all over the floor, happy?� �I just don�t want anything to happen to you, that�s all.� �I know Nick, I would have been the very same way if it would have been switched around. I couldn�t live without you in my life Nick. You�re a huge, huge part of it.� Finally he smiled. I sighed, he had always had a really pretty smile. He took my hand in his. �I couldn�t live without you either Shelby.� Then I felt his lips on mine and I think my heart stopped.Next: Chapter 13 |
