Role

  A visionary is one  who is able to blaze the path that links what you are passionate about doing to what your constituents are passionate about getting.  To be able to do this, one begins with a mental creation -- a mental picture of a desired future.

üUses analytical tools for forecasting, assessing competencies, organizational diagnosis, etc.

üWeaves events trends, images and action to create a desired vision.

 

Synthesizer of information

Role

        A synthesizer of information is one who knows what drives change. And understanding what drives change requires access to and synthesis of information. This leads to innovative action.

Competencies

üAccesses and screens information from different media and sources.

üApplies knowledge of socio-cultural, political and economic trends.

üAccurately identifies needs of constituencies.

üApplies systems thinking in planning and decision-making

üUtilizes capacity planning in situations of rapid growth and/or strategic change in the organization.

 

Innovator-mover

Role

   An innovator-mover is a creative individual with a sharp eye for change and limitless potential for creation. Bringing creativity and risk taking into the organization is essential to sustainability.

Competencies

üGenerates unique and unusual ideas.

üFormulates new solutions to old dilemmas.

üAdds details or expands on the idea itself.

üCreates the conditions that foster and release the creativity, talent, ability, and potential that exists in people.

 

Advocate

Role

      An advocate is one who causes people to act for the attainment of a just  and humane society.  Beyond the communication of a strategy, s/he is one who builds a sense of purpose and mobilizes his/her constituencies and different stakeholders to pursue a common goal.

Competencies

üSharpens understanding of issues and policies, using analytical tools.

üUtilizes knowledge of the policy process to pursue development and equity agenda.

üFormulates policy proposals and strategies to gain advantage for constituencies.

üPersuades and mobilizes publics to act, utilizing communication tools.

 Consensus builder

Role

     A consensus builder is one who seeks and nurtures common ground among different individuals and stakeholders with varied interests, backgrounds, goals, beliefs and pursuits.

Competencies

üListens emphatically.

üCommunicates effectively by displaying accurate and effective information.

üFacilitates discussions & synthesizes key points and agreements.

üDevelops and maintains relationships based upon integrity, trust and strategy.

üEffectively utilizes negotiation skills to manage conflict & achieve positive results.

üMediates competing interests or contrary positions to settle a point of dispute.

 

Network builder 

Role

      A network builder is one who establishes and nurtures relationships, structure, systems and resources aimed at aligning interests, beliefs, and approaches towards a common goal.

Competencies

üEstablishes and develops social trust, norms and networks that people can draw upon to solve common problems.

üStrategically positions the network within local and national contexts.

üFacilitates network building through team planning, goal setting and task organization.

üMobilizes, develops internal and external resources for network sustainability.

 

Keeper of the covenant 

Role

     A keeper of the covenant is one who is passionate and committed to the cause; one who inspires and motivates others to persevere.

S/he acts as a role model.

Competencies

üDemonstrates self-awareness of personality traits, styles and characteristics.

üExhibits self-respect and respect of others.

üManifests resilience and self-renewal.

üShows receptiveness to change and opportunity.

üImparts best practices and appropriate behaviors by living them.
