Chocobo breeding and Racing

Chocobos are fun-loving creatures that are often kept as pets and used as transportation.

 After acquiring the Highwind, you can raise your own Chocobos at Choco Bill's Chocobo Ranch near the Mythril Mine. Raising Chocobos isn't cheap. You'll need to buy stables from Choco Bill at 10 000 Gil a piece and you'll end up spending a bundle on greens and nuts. It's also quite time consuming due to the cost and time it takes to train and breed Chocobos.

Purchase all the stables from Choco Bill and fly to the island of Mideel and begin hunting for a chocobo catch four (after battle when riding round, get off, it gives you the choice of releasing it or sending it to the stables, do the latter.) Return to the Chocobo Ranch to choose which chocobo to keep. Choco Billy gives you his recommendations, interpret his comments to find the best Chocobo. You need a great chocobo.

Feed your two chosen Chocobos Sykilis greens bought from Chocobo Sage's place east of Icicle Inn at 5000 gil each until it's stats no longer increase, now it's ready to race. Race them till they're Both S-class and breed them. To breed them you need a nut but not a crappy nut bought from the shops you to get a real winner of a SPECIAL chocobo you need the rare carob nut. Carob nuts are found on the evil Vlakorados which has been seen roaming the plains outside of Bone Village. Use the carob nut on your Chocobos and with luck you shall get a legendary mountain (Green) or river (Blue) chocobo. race it to S-class like the other two, then you breed the original pair to get the other type. you then breed the river and mountain Chocobos both S-class of course! You get a super mountain-river (black) chocobo. train that  up to S-class and go to the chocobo tracks west of Icicle Inn catch four Chocobos (you are trying to catch a wonderful Chocobo) There are both wonderful and weak Chocobos here. Once you have a wonderful chocobo race it to S-class and then breed it with your Black chocobo with a fabulous Zeio nut only obtained from goblins on an island northeast of Chocobo Ranch. Once bred there will be a super rare GOLD chocobo, it goes anywhere, go northeast to where there is apparently nothing and there will be an unmarked island with the Knights Of The Round summon.

Quadra magic materia in the cave on the island most east on the Mideel islands

HP<->MP materia in the cave north of North Corel across the river

Mimic materia on the east coast of the Wutai island.

these need special Chocobos to reach
