Weyrlingmaster A'vrael - Played by: Steph

Name: A'vrael
Age: 32
Sex/Preference: Hetero
Rank/Title/Position: Weyrlingmaster
Main Location: Kalarak Weyr

Physical Description: A'vrael is a rather tall man, but not overly so at 6 foot even with a lithe, wiry build that contains muscle without proclaiming it. His wavy black hair is cropped fairly short, about at his jaw and brushed back from his face. His piercing blue-green eyes are the most striking feature in his darkly tanned face. He might have what some might call gypsy good looks were it not for the fact that his face is rather dominated by rugged, somewhat harsh planes and angles, including high cheekbones and a strong, hard jaw.

A'vrael dresses simply but elegantly in rather loose pants, often wherhide, and open collared, shirts with the sleeves rolled back to the elbows. The only jewelry he sports is the single loop earring in his right ear and the silver dragon charm hung on a leather thong that his little niece Ari gave him. On some occasions, A'vrael's brogue trips into his speech, but he tries to keep it to a mere lilt most of the time.

Emotional Description: At first glance, A'vrael is not a man many people would push more than a few steps in the wrong direction and that only if they were extremely brave. But all it takes is a cautious approach and his grin appears. A warm, friendly man, A'vrael is extremely approachable, always willing to answer questions and help anyone who needs it with an easy, unflappable calm that has served him well as a dragonrider. Slow to be offended or to anger, A'vrael can be extremely patient.

Push him past that almost legendary patience or threaten those he considers under his care and you'll have gone a step too far. Once you reach that point, he becomes an entirely different person. Hard, cold anger dominates him when he gets truly upset and his walls slam down, shutting everyone out. He has the unfortunate tendency to shoulder all his problems and even some of others around him. At that point, he has to make himself go walk it off, or he'll explode at the nearest person and feel incredibly guilty after the anger drains away.

A'vrael, when at work, is yet another side of the man. While staying optimistic almost constantly, when he's working, he's all business. Hard and intimidating at times, he pushes himself to the limits of his endurance and expects others to do likewise. He accepts few excuses and none at all for laziness, which, especially in fellow dragonriders, angers him immensely.

A'vrael is very much the intellectual but as much as he can, he takes it outside where he can enjoy himself in the elements, even if it's just laying outside against Mirdeanth's hide in the sun and reading. He loves to tease and laugh, keeping as optimistic as he can. There are so many sides to A'vrael that few can say they really know the man, he's always showing another side of him that the person hasn't seen before.

Brief History: Born Alevrael but he is still known by his childhood nickname of Alek. The nickname is mostly thanks to his younger sister, Arikaea, who, unable to pronounce Alev, let alone Alevrael, called him Alek.

The second of nine children, A'vrael was near the head of the enormous family, his parents crafters at Three Falls Hold. He and his younger sister, Arikaea, more or less raised their younger siblings as his parents needed all the help they could get with so many young children. Despite the almost decade difference between A'vrael and his older brother Trainne, the two got along well and were more or less friends. Although comfortable as crafters, his parents decided, when Alek was 6, that it was time for a change of scenary, and a caravan would be better able to accomidate their need for open space(both his parents were former holdless who had turned crafters). Alek was surprisingly adventurous for being such an avid reader of anything he could get his hands on and created an amazing amount of havoc on his own. At 12, his parents asked him to choice an area of craft to go into, but the only thing that interested him was the smithcraft, something that rather scared his healer parents. After reassuring them, the resident smith and his wife fostered Alek as well as several other lads. Over the turns, he learned what he could in the caravan until the smith was at his limits of knowledge and reccommended that his parents send him to the hall for more study. Reluctantly, Alevrael left the caravan to study at the smith hall in Three Falls Hold. It was a rough transition for him, the barracks seemed too cramped and crowded for someone used to open spaces and some poked fun at his lilting speech. After sleeping outside most of the first turn, Alek adjusted to the changes and came to love his craft. As the teachers saw, Alevrael thoroughly enjoyed teaching others as well as learning himself. At his 14th birthingday, Arikaea, while his family was visiting, gifted him with a flit egg from the entire family, from which hatched his green, Kaea, that he named for his little sister. Throughout the turns that he studied at the hall, becoming a journeyman at 18, Alek kept in touch with his family using Kaea. Shortly after graduating to his new rank, Alevrael was sent to a new post at Fort Weyr. It was there that he was Searched two turns later, at 20 turns of age, and there that he was chosen by bronze Myredeanth. The two advanced easily through weyrlinghood, though Alek was older than many of his classmates and helped as many as he could. Because he learned and memorized things easily, he was in a position to do so for most of the two turns he spent as a weyrling. Much to his delight and soon after he graduated, Arikaea joined the ranks of the dragonriders when she Impressed a green. In the next 8 turns, A'vrael was content to merely be a wingrider. Eventually he spent time as a Weyrlingmaster's Second for two turns. However, when he heard of an opening at Kalarak Weyr for a Weyrlingmaster, he decided to go for it and got the transfer and the position. Though new, A'vrael is determined to do the best he can.

Abilities/Strengths/Weaknesses:
Abilities- Can memorize and learn facts quickly and easily, has an incredible vocabulary from the consistent reading that he does.
Strengths- Has a talent, like one of his young friends, Talon, for recognizing strengths and weaknesses in others and knowing how hard to push them and generally, when to stop. Has an amazing amount of patience as well.
Weaknesses- Pushed too hard, his temper can be a cold thing, freezing anyone in their tracks and he can be so cold and unfeeling that he unwittingly offends or hurts people.

Pets: Kaea, green firelizard

NPC's: Arikaea, greenrider, KW; Trainne, trader, o.a.a.

Dragonriders/Weyrlings
Dragon name: Myredeanth
Dragon color: Bronze
Age: 12
Fighting Wing: ThreadsEnd (Weyrling)
Adult Size: Large

Description: Myredeanth is decent sized bronze, not one of the biggest, but tends to seem so because of his personality. He is an interesting mix of green and gold, almost reminiscient of leaves and shadows on a forest floor. Like his rider, he is lithely built, with both muscle and speed, unlike some of his larger comrades. With that build, Myredeanth is, in fact, one of the fastest bronzes in the Weyr and though he has more staying power than the other colors, he doesn't have as much as some of the larger bronzes. He is fairly evenly proportioned, with wings slightly larger then they should be and a slightly longer tail that gives him an almost elegant air.

Personality: Myredeanth is a quiet, but warmly friendly dragon, talking easily to both those younger and older than him. He's comfortable in almost any company and loves to peoplewatch. Sometimes watching the dragons has almost as much appeal, but he feels the humans are so much more interesting in their interactions, even if he doesn't always remember what he'd seen a couple of days later. Like his rider, he is incredibly patient but push him too far and his booming, angry voice will make the most arrogant, cocky of dragons wince. It tends to be even more effective because he uses it so rarely.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths- Decently fast with good endurance. Easily gains control over situations with his calm and if necessary, sheer volume of his naturally loud, booming mindvoice.
Weaknesses- Is neither quite as agile as the blues or greens nor as strong as the larger bronzes. Can almost deafen with his voice if he doesn't take care to keep it down and tends to get extremely angry if sensible commands are ignored for the sake of reckless bravery or stupidity as he sees it.

Crafters
Craft: Smith
Rank: Journeyman
Specialty: Engineering

Strength/Weaknesses: Unlike several smiths at the Weyr, including his own friend Talon, A'vrael is very good at inventions and bending his mind around engineering or other more technical difficulties. He is decent at metalworking, has the patience required for making jewelry. However, A'vrael is not at all interested in everyday objects and prefers teaching or technical work to some of the heavier metalworking.
