Firelizards, or flits, are miniature dragons. They were the original "blue print" that the Ancients used to create the dragons of today's Pern.Firelizards come in five colors: Gold, Bronze, Brown, Blue, and Green. Just like their draconic counterparts, the females are the golds and greens, with the males being the bronzes, browns, and blues.
When flits hatch, they are Impressible. Just like dragons, they are Impressed and live their whole lives with their lifemate.
Firelizards are able to transmit images and feelings, but not speech. As a result of this, when a flit rises to mate, their human counterpart feels the mating lust.
Firelizards are easily trained to do specific tasks such as message carrying, hunting, and watching children. They are excellent hunters, always keeping an eye out for their natural enemies: wherries and tunnel snakes.
Firelizards can go between places to get to safety or to go somewhere for their owner. When gold flits clutch, it is a lot like when a queen dragon clutches. The gold 'lizard is very protective of her eggs, and will usually only have her lifemate come near. The eggs are usually distributed a sevenday or two before hatching.
Greens clutch after a mating flight also, only they don't care for being protective of their clutches. They are stupid and forget where they even clutch. The hatchlings usually die or live on to be wild.
