This is a poem from a very dear friend. She was kind enough to let me post it here.
I've known the pain of living in the streets or the shutting of an iron door The freezing cold, The loss of a friend I could tell you quite a bit more But the one pain of being different Is clearly at the top of the list While other pain comes and goes Being different is being in the abyss It stays with you for your entire life always letting you know that it's there and the best you can hope for is to pretend that you don't care Ariel Aug. 2003

And another from Ariel. I do so enjoy her work. Very thought provoking.
STATE OF MIND
Sometimes the caring is just not enough When you retreat down deep in your soul And the things that you think of or worry about are so terrible, you thinkwhat do I do? where do I go? While you're there, you can hear the muffles of all the attention, loving and care But for some reason it's just not loud enough to bring you back from the dark despair If you stay too long, you may forget what is real with your mind swimming round and round Panic takes over, and the only thing left Is to give up and just lay down It's not what you want to really You just can't think of any other way You may wake up if you're a lucky one To another chance, another day Ariel Sept., 2003
