| Smooth (page 3) by shirasaya{W} on "the moon" reverse the snake to come back up again (this is known as the other half of the corkscrew as well as a body wave - if you're not familiar with it, it's just doing a pelvic circle forward and down, and then following that with a movement that ripples up through the spine and rib cage, pulling you up straight again.) The arms here on the rising corkscrew should go back out to the sides as if the upward motion pulled them gently out away from your body, and at the very end of the phrase on the words "from you" do a shoulder shimmy. The shoulder shimmy should come directly on the end of the rising corkscrew and should be seamless - no pausing, no gap between the movements at all. repeat this group of movements for "that's the same emotion that I get from you" divided like this: "it's the same" is the right hip circle "as the emotion" is the left hip circle "that I" snake down "get from you" snake up with shoulder shimmy at the apex on "you've got the kind of loving" turn your body so that your right hip faces the audience, left hand lifted up over your head , palm facing away from your body and elbow slightly flexed, the other hand should be behind your right hip as you do the bicycle hip circle. All your weight needs to be on your left hip so your right hip is free to move, the right leg should be slightly extended, slightly flexed, ball of the foot on the floor. The back hand stays absolutely still, and provides the frame of reference for the audience to see just how much your hip is moving. Your right cheek should almost hit that hand as you come back and up with the hip circle. Do 4 complete circles with the hip. "Give me" cross the right hand to the left shoulder, elbow near the chest -this is a sharp, decisive movement "your" - cross the left hand to the right shoulder, elbow near the chest in another sharp movement - the position is the traditional Egyptian mummy position. "heart" bend your head down - again, this is a sharp movement. Be careful not to drop anything else - your shoulders need to remain down and back and your chest needs to stay lifted of of your hips. "make it real" - on these words there are 2 distinctly strong beats in the music by the brass and drums - if you listen to it there's no way you can miss those two beats. Do a right hip hard up on the first beat and a left hip hard up on the second beat. "or else forget about it" - for this phrase you're going to suit movement closely to words. This is a dismissive gesture to the audience. Your body will pivot a quarter turn to the right as your right leg comes up and then stamps out and down in front of you - the hip will do a sharp hip lift as you pivot, and your right arm will come out away from your body, wrist flipping to flick your hand out and away in a distinct "get away" gesture to the audience. The hand out and the foot down need to come at exactly the same time in a sharp, strong gesture right around the word "forget". Then you just hold the position for the rest of the phrase to let the gesture sink in. Theres a short musical interlude before the next verse, where you have 4 measures of 8 beats. For the first two measures, youre going to walk away from the audience. You ended with the right hand and right foot pushed out toward the audience, pivoted to face the left side of the stage, and the left arm lifted in front of you. Back Go to page 4 |
