` Live . Love . Believe

Hello to all who reads! It's just another random page brought to you by Loretta :)

[ House ]

As far as i know, House is a genre of music which began around the 80's after the funk/soul era, when electronic music got popular. It was mainly for underground club goers at that time. There are two reasons why it's called House music which i think are still disputed but anyway.

1. Because House music was usually created in the comfort of one's own home.
2. Because of a club called Warehouse where House music was played. Eventually it became shortened to just 'House'.

There are many kinds of House music, from Deep/Progressive House music to Hard House which in my opinion starts to resemble Techno. Personally i prefer Deep, soulful, chill House music; Kaskade, Miguel Migs, Bonnie Bailey, Hed Kandi... you get the drift. But i'm not a guru on House music; honestly i still can't tell the difference between the different types of House music.

To me, House beats are soothing. I love the beats. Sometimes, they just make me feel like Jacking.

Which is where House dance comes in. Personally i feel that House dance is something that is energetic, something that's a lot more than just consciously doing steps. It's something you feel inside you that makes you want to move.

When i was first exposed to House dance and House music, i enjoyed the dance but couldn't quite understand the music. Of course, at that time Jacking hadn't been as important as it is to me now. It actually took me quite a while to start liking House music, and now that i do, it takes me to a whole new dimension. It's not just steps now. I love the music and how i can move to it.

Therefore i kinda disagree when people say it is a pre-requisite to love House music before you can do House dance. Anyone can do House dance without having even listened to House music before. But to truly understand and enjoy it, you have to be 'deep in the vibe of House'.

House dance consists of three basic elements: Jacking, Footwork and Lofting.

Jacking is the feel of House where you gather the energy on the snare and release it on the high hat. It looks like a simplified upward body wave.

Footwork is all the interesting stuff you can do with your feet. There are moves like the Hopping step, Loose Legs, Hurdle, etc. as well as stuff taken from other types of dance like Tap and Jazz.

Lofting is riding the music and is more flowy. May include floorwork. I'm not sure, but i think this happens at the part of the song where there are no beats.

And of course there's other stuff like skating, stomping and shuffling.

Yup, so that's a brief introduction about House music/dance :)

Based on random searches from The House Dance Project, DDN, Wiki and other sources that i've come across.
