...that Late Roman group in Inwood (near Fort Tryumph park)
Notes: Norman is first an armourer and fencer.
His primary cultural interests are with the Khazars, any of the ethno-culturally Jewish groups of the region, and any of the other peoples of the general region (Rus, Pechenegs, KaraKalpaks, Polovtsi, Golden Horde...).
He speaks and writes Russian and has put his hand to translating materials for the Kaganate.
Norman is also the Editor for this Site.

Personna Name: Dmitriy Shelomianin
Location: Berkeley, California
E-mail: [email protected]
Other Affiliations: SCA - squire to Sir Brand McClelland

As of this writing (in October of 2001) Dmitriy is a 4th year student at UC Berkeley, but he doesn't do protests.
He does, however, spend far too much of his time on studying Scandinavian and Nomad cultures. He is also interested in the study of Medieval Swordsmanship as seen in historical manulas (Fiore, I33, Ringeck). His armour has improved since the photo was taken.
Dmitriy is fluent in Russian, and often puts that knowledge to use by translating articles of interest to the Red Kaganate.
Dmitriy is the moderator of our yahoogroups e-mail list.

Russ Mitchell
Personna Name: -
Location: Texas
E-mail: [email protected]
Other Affiliations: Experimental Archaeology and Steppe martial arts group in Budapest.
Soon be associated (hopefully) with similar groups at Texas A&M.
Notes: Russ is pursuing a doctorate on the use and reconstruction of the use of the medieval and early modern sabre in Hungary and Eastern Europe/Ottoman lands, and, although lack of yard space has prevented it, the reconstruction and use of felt materials, period fabric dying techniques, decorative metalwork, and the making of bone tools..
Russ has a big cat.
He takes himself very seriously, indeed. And would love to be able to send in a photograph of himself in caftan, mail shirt, felt hat, etc.... except none of that's really arrived yet. So you're stuck with the cat.
Primarily interested in martial dance, period martial arts, and daily life in medieval and Ottoman-period Hungary, including differences between Hungarians proper and other peoples settled within the Hungarian kingdom: the Szekly, Cumans/Polovitsi/Kun, Alans, etcetera.
