| November 30, 2000 A scary thought, where would the Green Bay Packers be without #4 behind center right now??? Considering his options are prima-donna Freeman, the XFL caliber Bill Schroeder, no Levens, and a couple of TE's who can't catch anything. Add to that all the crucial injuries on defense and suddenly 1996 seems light years ago... That being said, something should be addressed here. There is a segment of the local population who feels that since Ray Rhodes was canned after one 8-8 season, that Mike Sherman should get the same fate should this team finish .500 or worse. The man had no head coaching experience, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT??? I can understand people feeling Ray got a raw deal, and happen to agree to an extent. However,I totally disagree with the premise of race playing a part in Rhode's dismissal. This was just a case of Uncle Ron Wolf listening to the fans and media, and hitting the panic button. So lets say Sherman finishes 7-9 and he gets let go??? Then what, good luck finding a coach then, who would come in knowing that he needs nothing less than 9-7 to keep his job for a second year. With that kind of stress you might as well be employed by Dan Snyder. The Pack would probably wind up with Mike Riley coaching them. In other words, we have to hang with Sherm for the forseeable future. If Wolf hits the eject button again, then he might be the next to leave town. Turning to the playoff picture, the current projections right now look like this... AFC 1. Oakland 2. Tennessee 3. Miami 4. Baltimore 5. Denver 6. Indianapolis NFC 1. Minnesota 2. Philadelphia 3. New Orleans 4. St. Louis 5. NY Giants 6. Tampa Bay The olny team I consider a front runner for SB35 would be the Vikes. And I wouldn't count anyone out in the AFC. I'm not sold on the Raiders and you can forget about Tennessee. So look for the team peaking at the right time, which in this case is the Ravens. Imagine that, a Super Bowl featuring Randy Moss and Ray Lewis, the games two best (as well as controversial) players. Imagine the storylines that would provide. Now for my locks of the week. Which I will provide since my against the spread record has managed to reach 106-82 (56%). And after a hand count, it was determined that I finished Yahoo's College Pick' em game with a winning record at 113-112-4. So here comes 4-0!!!!! -Thurs night DET +9 over MIN. Just too many points for this divisional showdown. -SEA +1 over ATL, Chandler benched, Jamal pouting, the dirty birds have truly returned. -BUF -3.5 over MIA, fins still beat up, and BUF in December is always a graveyard for them. (12/2) CHANGE THE PICK, FIEDLER AND LAMAR SMITH WILL PLAY, BUF SECONDARY BEAT UP, GO WITH THE FINS!!! -MON NIGHT KC +1 over NE, Gary Payton and Vin Baker should be playing defense for this demotivated (soon to be 3-13)team, they're so good at getting coaches whacked. Let's see how out of control the drunks in Foxboro get over this... |
