Pikachu Piggy - 11/15/98-9/15/00

Poo Trail #1513

We adopted Pikachu from Judi on October 23, 1999. She was being fostered and loved by Laurie Kuhn and her husband. She was about 1 year old, so I decided that her birthday was November 15, 1998. She was a cinnamon teddy mix. (Teddys have kinky, curly hair and very soft bellies.) Her hobbies included making eyes at Harry (her huspig), romping with Harry, being the center of attention and giving little kisses.

It was fate that we came together. I'd been wanting a Teddy for a while. When I heard about all the piggies at the shelter, I called Judi to see how I could help -- thinking I might take in one or two. She gave me the info on the shelter and we talked about how it might work out better for me to adopt one of her current rescues instead. I asked if she had any teddies and she said no.

My husband and I rushed out to the shelter after he got off work -- hoping we would get there before they closed so we could adopt one of the babies and pick up some of the rest to hold for Judi. Just as we were heading to the door, Judi drove up. She had one of her fosterers, Laurie, with her. Laurie and Judi were at a bunny party and Laurie had brought Pikachu with her to show off. When Judi saw Pika she realized that she is a teddy mix and immediately thought of me. I agreed to take her (having not seen her or knowing her name). We picked up the shelter pigs and went back to the party so I could meet the teddy.

My husband and I had just gotten into Pokemon. We watched the cartoon and think they are cute. At the party, Laurie brought in the teddy and introduced her as Pikachu. That brought it all together that we had to take her home! It was fate, destiny or a really wierd coincidence... =-) Pika had found her family in us.

Pika died on 15 September 2000. She had just come through surgery on the 14th to remove an ovarian cyst and seemed to be recovering well. When I got up on the 15th I discovered her to be completely limp but very warm. She died in my arms. Upon the post mortem exam we found her adrenal gland to have a tumor and an abcess in the place of her other ovary. We suspect that the tumor is what killed her. Unfortunately, adrenal tumors can't be diagnosed via ultrasound or X-rays -- we had no way of knowing it was there. We miss her terribly. Our only consolation is that she found her real family and had almost a year with us before she died.

I can't wait until I can get her little piggie kisses and kiss her ears again. May she play happily across the rainbow bridge until we can be together once again. If you have lost a furry friend you might find comfort at Petloss.com.
