Martin J. Pigg - 1/1/98-11/16/02

Poo Trail #824

Martin was born on January 1, 1998. We said good-bye to him on November 16, 2002. We adopted him as a rescue pig from Judi Lainer on June 7, 1998. He is a Tortoise Shell and White American. He is extremely snuggly and has an affinity for eating my hair. He hasn't adjusted all that well to the newcomers. When introduced to Bleys, he nibbled at Bleys' face and then squealed as if he was the one who was bitten. Silly Pig! His hobbies include cuddling, munching hay, running around and giving indignat looks to the other pigs.

Although Martin doesn't like other pigs and people, Sonic Gelineau turned his head and stole his heart. They met when Sonic's slave, Carol, was my secret pal. They were married in a virtual ceremony on August 21, 2000. Her image is on the bottom right.

Martin attended the virtual Corn Festival and Krewe of Cavy '99 and won the silver medal in the Slave Run at the Pigglyimpics. He also participated in the second Pigglyimpics.

Martin had been losing weight and losing hair all over his body for quite a while, but since I was with him daily, I didn't really notice. Additionally, he had always had a skin condition that caused him to have varying bald patches. The end of October 2002 I realized how bad he was looking and took him in to the vet. We were unable to determine the cause of the problem, but put him on a couple of courses of antibiotics. He still had his appetite, was fiesty, and acting normal. He just was way too skinny and looked "mangy". We tested him for diabetes, but that came up negative. The vet said that he suspected cancer, but wanted to finish out the course of antibiotics before we did more invasive tests.

I awoke on the 16th to find Martin having seizures. This continued off and on for about 2 hours while we were at the ER vet and waiting for our regular vet. During that time, it was obvious that he was slipping away from us. When our regular vet arrived, he determined that there was nothing more we could do and that Martin would probably die later in the day. My husband and I didn't want him to suffer any more of the seizures, so decided to have him put to sleep. We were there through the process and I held him in my arms as he slipped away. He will be buried next to my precious little girl Pika.

He will always hold a special place in my heart and any time I see a Hawaiian shirt or blue suede shoes, I will know that he is over the bridge having great adventures and watching over me.

I love you Martin. Until we meet again! - Your Momma-slave
