Boston & St. John's - *sigh* between Alan's voice and the whistle, it would have been perfect except for the guy behind me who felt the need to sing it at the top of his lungs. Grr
Paddy Murphy - everyone was rockin' for this one by San was introduced as the blond and beautiful San McCann from Gull Island.
General Taylor - as the intro for this Alan went into this long involved explanation of how "51 years ago today Canada and Newfoundland joined forces to become a great country." Then he started talking about how they had just had Memorial Day to remember those who died for their country. "This song goes out to them - General Taylor." ....Okay....
Lukey - Alan kept saying, "Everybody say Yeah" and of course people would. More about this later. Darrell had a nice solo introduced by Alan here. He was great. San also did a nice bodhran solo.
Mari Mac - I had trouble keeping up at the end. Is it possible that this gets a bit faster each time I hear it? It seems that way. San was in the front of the stage on his knees for that one, where he stayed for a while for photo ops I guess. The b'y is lookin' good, folks. San did a lot of dancing this evening. Bob did a lot of smiling, Alan was really working the crowd on both sides of the stage, Darrell looked like he was just having too much fun.
Ordinary Day - again Alan was yelling, "Everybody say yeah!" then he turns to some one and says "I just love doin' that sh**" Excursion - I think I've gushed enough about Darrell. Auntie Mary - rocked as usual with San and Bob on the floor wailin' together.
No encore, although we tried. Danny ran around like a crazy person trying to get all their gear off the stage for the Jeff Healy Band. I love the powder blue guitar cases. Had to leave early right before the Jeff Healey Band was finished. I liked some of their stuff, but it was too loud. People were screaming for the Tragically Hip at every lull during the night. We never did get to hear them, though, we had to bug out early with friends. And I was sooo tired of standing. The old ankle injury reared its ugly head. On the way out of the Summerstage area, we were greeted by this unusual cow. Look below for the picture! There, that'll have to do me till the fall I guess! Anyways, off to Newfoundland next week - YES! |
