COMMUNITY BIBLE CHURCH Washington, Missouri |
| History | Brief History On a Sunday in 1982*, Jack and Katy Darnton drove from Augusta, randomly looking for a conservative church. Guided by God's secret pruposes, Elwood Grob, an elder of Believers Bible Chapel near Union, stayed late after services. They all met on the parking lot and a chain of events began that still influences us. Ultimately representatives from three Augusta area families were received into fellowship at Believers Bible Chapel. They were the Charles and Barbara Brennecke family, Jack and Katy Darnton, and Lela Sehrt and her children, Michelle and Steve. This group also began a prayer meeting in Augusta that would later evolve into the church. Its beginning establishes the "birth" date. By 1983* the Augusta group felt the Holy Spirit's call to begin a meeting in their hometown. The elders of Believers Bible Chapel gave their blessings and the first breaking of bread service of Augusta Bible Fellowship was observed in the Darnton home. When the fellowship formally organized in 1985 it changed its name to Augusta Bible Church. The name of the church was changed to Community Bible Church in 2001 because it no longer met in Augusta. *These dates have been approximated. An Early Meeting at the Brennecke Home
