shanghai noon

after it looked like jackie was getting a little hollywood with big budgets squeezing out his style, jackie made a welcome return in shanghai noon. this is a good film, i'm pleased to say, and if you haven't seen it, then do. the fighting is ok, but it is really funny as well. jackie chan has gone through many phases, including many tributes to his screen idols charlie chaplin and buster keaton, and shanghai noon, although not using this style of visual comedy, is actually laugh out load funny at times, in particular the scenes with his horse , like when he's chaffed his thighs riding the horse, and walks around squatting down bow legged style, and when jackie and his horse are drunk, and jackie is slurring 'why my horse not moving, is he dead? ...horsey...wake up horsey...''

jackie wanted some traditional weapons in this film, so even though the fight with the guards doesn't make a whole lot of sense (the producers words) it is still good to see. this scene has jackie with the spear against the guard with the three section staff

this horse is a funny horse. jackie can command it by clicking and making funny noises. however, jackie takes a little while to figure it out and ends up trying to push it's head to make it sit down. the horse doesn't get it though. it was a present from the indian tribe he ended up in when he saved one of their boys from the crow indians.

this is jackie chans wife, after he spends the night with her under the influence of the pipe he was given to shut him up. she looks out for him during the film, and saves his ass more than once. she unfortunately had a few scenes cut and isn't in the film enough - she's a cool character. if you get the dvd, you can see the cuts but i can't understand why a film must be 1.30 hours...it doesn't make any sense. anyway, i don't think she is a real indian, i think she's actually canadian and called brendan or something like that
