Dundee is the forth largest city in Scotland
and I have lived here all my life. Personally think it is one of
the best kept cities in Scotland but sadly, it is one that receives very little
publicity. in years gone by, it was famous for the three J's, Jute, Jam and Journalism,
but sadly the Jute industry is a thing of the past as is Keillors famous Marmalade
but Journalism is still one of the major employers with publications that are
known all around the world such as the DANDY and the BEANO with characters like
Desperate Dan, Banana Man, Dennis the menace, Lord Snooty, Billy Whiz, and many
more. The daily papers, the Courier and Advertiser and the Evening Telegraph
not to mention the Sunday Post with Oor Willie and the Broons are a part of nearly every
Dundonian family home

Dundee is built on the banks of the river Tay and the foot
of the Law hill and is also surrounded by the Sidlaw hills, it has
a history of Whaling, Shipbuilding, Exploration and lots more. The Robb Celadon
shipyard built many fine ships the most
famous being Captain Scott's Arctic
exploration ship the R R S Discovery which is berthed at discovery quay along
side the visitors centre Visit it at www.rrs-discovery.co.uk/
and not to far from that is the
Frigate Unicorn one of the oldest War ships still afloat.
The Tay
Rail Bridge disaster, is another historic event that cost many lives, when it was blown
down in the height of a storm, as a train was crossing and even to this day the
road and rail bridges are closed in extremely high winds. It also has some beautiful
parks and golf courses, that were gifted by the big Jute barons of years
gone by, the Baxter's park with its grand pavilion, the Caird park with its golf
course, castle and two ponds commonly known as the Mains Castle and the Den O'' Mains.
