My Memory of Lane Frost, Who's life ended in 1989 at the Cheyenne Frontiers days rodeo in Wyoming, was me watching him win the world championship in 1987. The movie 8seconds tell's his life story, but I could only tell you what a good friend he was. You have got to know someone personally, and been there to understand it. My greatest memory of Lane was something he told me in Philisburge Ks, at a P.R.C.A rodeo in 1987. I had just came back to riding after healing up from a injury, Anyway I had just pulled up to the rodeo grounds and Lane pulled up beside me. As I was getting out of my car, Lane asked what bull I drew, I told him, a mean one and he's hard to ride. I also told him I was feeling a little scared, then I asked him what he had, he said; the biggest bull here and you know what? I'm scared to. He continued saying, but thats alright because being scared keeps me sharp and on top of my game. Well, I got bucked off that night and Lane won the rodeo. Lane tought me something that night about being scared, and that was, let it work for you and not against you. That conversation did'nt even cross my mine intel in 1988 at that very same rodeo, I had drawed the toughest bull there, this bull had only been riden once. Here I was feeling scared again, then something remined me of what Lane said the year before and how he approach it. Remembering what he said, gave me the confidence I needed. I rode a national finals bull that night for my highest score ever, I was 88 points and won the rodeo. I knew Lane personally in and out of the area for several years before his departure in life. I'm sure Lane was a great inspiration to alot of people, he was to me, he was not only a great bullrider, but a great person and friend. I have a group picture below, that was taken in Reno Nv in 1987 at one of the biggest P.R.C.A rodeos in the world. Its the only picture I have of Lane, which I so happen to be in . Lane is third from the right and I'm third from the left. If you hold the mouse on the picture, you will also see a picture of me riding in cheyenne Wy in 1987, also there's more bullriding pictures below. I have alot of other memories about Lane, but it would take me forever to write, so if you have any questions, sign my guess book and I'll get back with you, enjoy and Thanks, J.W. |
