Dipper "Black-bellied"
Cinclus cinclus cinclus Lowestoft, Suffolk, January 1994.
An elusive bird frequenting a parkland lake to the north of Lowestoft
in Suffolk.
|

|
Kentish Plover Charadrius
alexandrinus Fleetwood, Lancashire, January 1994.
This
female (right) returned for her 3rd? winter to the Fleetwood shoreline.
She seemed quite at home with the local Ringed Plovers Charadrius
hiaticula (left).
|

|
Iceland Gull Larus
glaucoides Broomhill Flash, South Yorkshire, February
1994.
This 1st winter bird gave good views at the
wildfowl feeding station in front of the hide.
|

|
Black-winged Stilt
Himantopus himantopus Titchwell, Norfolk, February 1994.
The (in)famous resident of Titchwell, north Norfolk. Why are you still
here and where do you come from?
|

|
Ring-billed Gull Larus
delawarensis Uxbridge, Middlesex, February 1994.
This site
attracted a wintering adult for a few years in the nineties, although I
found that it could be elusive at times.
|

|
Mandarin Duck Aix
galericulata Uxbridge, Middlesex, February 1994.
A top site
to see this beautiful introduced species to the UK. There are many
self-sustaining populations around Greater London.
|

|
Marsh Tit Parus
palustris Wroxham, Norfolk, February 1994.
A winter
visit to Wroxham Broad will provide you with sightings of this species
at the feeding station.
|

|
This species looks slighter and smarter than the
closely related Willow Tit Parus montanus, which is now a
Norfolk rarity.
|

|
Slavonian Grebe Podiceps
auritus Lowestoft, Suffolk, March 1994.
A quick 10 mins. stop at
Lowestoft Ness, which is the most easterly point of the UK,
produced this smart winter plumaged individual.
|

|
We were lucky to see this bird as it flew
south along the coastline, after only a few minutes sheltering
amongst the rocks.
|

|
Ross's Gull Rhodostethia
rosea Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, March 1994.
The
mythical winter wanderer. After 6 hours this gem flew in off the sea to
feed with the other gulls in the docks. It gave stunning flight
views allowing many photographers to go home happy.
|

|
Black Redstart
Phoenicurus ochruros Winterton, Norfolk, March 1994.
The
buildings on the edge of the south dunes at Winterton regularly attract
passing Black Redstarts in the Spring.
|

|
Ring-billed Gull Larus
delawarensis Rhyl, Wales, April 1994.
This immaculate
breeding plumaged adult spent most of its time at a distance on the
boating lake. Only on a couple of occasions could it be attracted to
bread thrown onto the jetty.
