Iceland Gull Larus
glaucoides Sheringham,
Norfolk, January 1993.
A difficult to see species in Norfolk. This
1st winter bird proved otherwise as it still could be found on the
sea off Sheringham into May (see below).
|

|
Mediterranean Gull Larus
melanocephalus Sheringham, Norfolk, January 1993.
Whilst
watching the Iceland Gull L. glaucoides, this adult winter bird
landed on the beach. It was attracted to the old scones being thrown
away at the end of the day.

|
Great Northern Diver Gavia
immer Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, April 1993.
Easy access to
this site, located at the side of a major cross-country route, tempted
birders to view this bird. This lake is not very wide and you were
never too far away from the bird to get a decent photograph.
|

|
Northern Grey Shrike Lanius
excubitor Westlton Heath, Suffolk, April 1993.
Typically
birds of this species return to traditional wintering sites in the UK
for a few years running, including this particular individual.
|

|
Stonechat Saxicola
torquata Dunwich
Heath, Suffolk, April 1993.
A typical heathland species that is
always exciting to see.
|

|
Iceland Gull Larus
glaucoides Sheringham,
Norfolk, April 1993.
The above individual now in 1st summer
plumage and looking very pale indeed. It was a good bird to log on
the
annual May bird race.
|

|
Slavonian Grebe Podiceps
auritus Blakeney, Norfolk, May 1993.
A nice summer
plumaged bird that lingered on the north Norfolk coastline.
|

|
Sociable Plover Vanellus
gregarius Cley, Norfolk, May 1993.
A major rarity that was
appreciated by many as it mixed with the local Lapwings V. vanellus
. |

Ahhh!!!!Sunbathing owlets in the
cemetery at Great Yarmouth.

This female bird spent much of its time
in the company of a drake Shoveler A. clypeata.
|

|
Bluethroat Luscinia svecica
svecica
Holme, Norfolk, May 1993.
Always a beautiful bird to see
on the east coast of the United Kingdom, on its way to and
from Scandinavia. |

|
Rustic Bunting Emberiza
rustica Gibraltar Point, Lincolnshire, May 1993.
This
breeding plumaged male was elusive at times. It's more common to
encounter immatures of this species on autumn passage. |

|
Oriental Pratincole
Glareola
maldivarum Mundesley, Norfolk, June 1993.
An extreme
rarity to the UK. This bird was the 3rd ever to be found in the British
Isles. Despite, its huge rarity status, all three have been
long- staying birds. |

|
Whiskered Tern Chlidonias
hybridus Cemlyn Bay, Anglesey, June 1993.
The tern hot spot
that is Cemlyn Bay, Anglesey hosted this marsh tern. |

|
A closer view. I think that the dark
grey underparts of this species always makes the bird appear as if
it has been oiled!
|

|
Woodchat Shrike Lanius
senator Kelling Quags, Norfolk, June 1993.
A quick to dash
to see this male spring migrant could have been taken at an easier
pace. It stayed in the area for over one month. |

|
White-winged Black Tern
Chlidonias leucopterus Ouse Washes, Cambridgeshire, June
1993.
This
lone marsh tern delighted birdwatchers at the Ouse Washes RSPB reserve.
This extensive wetland produces some wonderful migrants, as well as
breathtaking winter sunsets. |
