Yellow-legged Gulls Larus (argentatus) michahellis
Blackborough End Tip, Norfolk, May 2004.

Shots of 3 different birds, 2nd summer and 1st summer (together in the top 2) with that 1st summer shown at the waters edge as well. Another more advanced 1st summer bird is shown in the bottom 2 photos.

Dunlin Calidris alpina
Titchwell, Norfolk, May 2004.

Excellent views of waders coming into breeding plumage on the north Norfolk coast.

Garganey Anas querquedula
Welney, Norfolk, May 2004.

A few were present at Welney and also noted at Titchwell and Lakenheath on this weekend.

Song Thrush Turdus philomelos
Elstree, Herts., May 2004.

The loudest songster in town. Started at 3 am, and sang well at dusk as well!!!

Kestrel and Red Kite Falco tinnunculus and Milvus milvus
Chilterns, Bucks., July 2004.

Nice views of Kestrel and in excess of 30 Red Kites in the Chilterns. We saw over 70 Kites including 23 noted over the M40 between junctions 4 and 6.

Yellow-legged Gull Larus (argentatus) michahellis
Lowestoft, Suffolk, July 2004.

A cracking adult at the eastern most point of the UK. It favoured the groynes and nearby Birds Eye factory roof-tops. Note the pale yellow legs, dark grey mantle, lack of white in the primaries, bright red spot on the bill, and the clear red-coloured orbital ring around the eye.

Montagu's Harrier Circus pygargus
England, July 2004.

Excellent views at the RSPB watchpoint of the male (not quite full adult) and his mate. Another female was present in the area on this visit.

Mediterranean Gull Larus melanocephalus
Trimley Marshes, Suffolk, July 2004.

A nice moulting adult with Black-headed Gulls. Consolation for the poor views of the eclipse drake Blue-winged Teal, (i.e. it took off from behind an island, and disappeared over the ridge onto an inaccessible marsh!)
