Complete revision and considerable extension of Access DB for office managing
care of 1,000+ clients in four counties.
Gathered requirements.
Users concerned for accuracy, as DB reports are shared with gov't agencies.
Studied DB: traced usage of data fields; mapped interrelation of all interfaces.
The DB, as it was, was an honest effort, but complex, awkward and redundant.
Re-allocated functions to new interfaces, residing in well-thought-out levels.
Renamed all fields + forms to a logical scheme.
Saw need for, and delivered, a more thorough monthly tracking system
that charts an entire year's data at a glance.
Crafted a much simpler data rollover/archiving method.
Introduced unique cafeteria-style interfaces for building new records.
Solved need for frequently-used charges by adding an imaginative interface
that creates such instances, and adds them to a reusable library.
After initial success, delivered similar version to sister office
in Cedar Rapids, IA, serving three more counties.
Took initiative to solve customer issues post-delivery: Designed and
successfully marketed added tools to give users a virtual window into
the DB, empowering them to investigate and solve data snags
themselves. This eliminated frequent follow-up visits by the developer.
