| Day 6: 2/10/00 ==> Old Faithful and drive to Jackson Hole, WY. We started the day at the Lower Geyser Basin and the Paint Pods. After that we went down towards Old Faithful. When we arrived there James went to the visitors center to ask when the next eruption would be. We were lucky, the next eruption could happen in a few minutes. So w hurried to Old Faithful, we only had to wait a minute or two. Then he erupted, there was a lot of steam and water. And it gradually climbed higher and higher. I expected that this would make a lot of noise, but it didn't. After two minutes it was all over. Now we had the chance to hike down the Old Faithful Trail towards Biscuit Basin. On the way down we saw a lot of geysers and hot pools. I even saw a Belgian Geyser. Me and a couple others were the first to reach the parking at Biscuit Basin, so we had a lot of time and we decided to try and get some sleep in the van. It was quite refreshing after such a short night. Eventually everyone reached the parking lot. We went then to Grand Teton Natl. Park.(Teton is French for breast) We stopped on the way down to take some scenic pictures of the mountains and the surrounding area. We drove further towards a big lake and there we had the choice of doing all kinds of long or short hikes. Six of us(James, Jon, Rudy, Orsi, Thomas and I) decided to take the 5 mile hike to the Hidden Falls. It took us quite a long time to get up the hill but the view of the fall made it all up. The trail down went a lot faster then we expected and that's why we arrived earlier than all the rest at the van. |
