| Day 10: 6/10/00 ==> Mountainbike and Hummer Day. Today was the day I really looked out for. It was MOUNTAINBIKING DAY and HUMMER DAY. We had to be at the bike shop at 8.15 am. We filled in a piece of paper and picked out our helmets and water bottles and got on the van which would bring us to the beginning of the trail. The trail we were going to do was called "Gemini Bridges Trail", a 13 mile mostly downhill trail. The Gemini Bridges are 2 rocky bridges over a very steep and deep canyon. At first the trail was quite easy but very rocky. Unfortenately Julita fell early on the trail in a relative sharp curve. She got the handlebars in her stomach and hurted herself a little bit. So she stayed for the rest of the trail in the van that was following us. The rest of the trail went allright do, no accidents anymore. I said earlier that mostly the trail was downhill, but at the end there's a long steep climb of about 1,5 miles(2,6 km). We started at the bottom with 11 people and 8 of them reached the top without getting in the van. It was a great day for riding, nice and warm but not too hot. Almost no wind and no clouds. I got a really nice full-suspension bike, which was absolutely awesome for downhill riding. For uphill it wasn't that good because my rear tire would jump up every time I hit a rock so I had to peddle harder to get up the hill at the end. But the view and the knowing you've completed the climb was all worth it!!!!! |
