| We made good ground and by 5 pm we arrived at the Colorado River. We had dinner on a beach near the river. We ate fried chicken(I didn't like it that much, I think it's a really American thing). Just when we all sat down again in the van it started to rain. An enormous storm broke loose. A lot of lightning, which made the red rocks around Moab a kind of purple shade. Because of this lightning-storm we had to wait to set up our camp, so we drove towards downtown Moab and bought some liquor in the State Liquor Store and went also for some grocery shopping. After an hour or so it stopped raining and that ment we could set up camp. It was a nice green grassy campground with nice showers and toilets. We talked a bit and then went to sleep because we all were pretty tired from the long drive. Day 9: 5/10/00 ==> Arches Natl. Park. James let us sleep in a bit. Around 10 am we went to Arches Natl. Park. We first did a short hike through Park Avenue where we saw a lot of balanced rocks, including the Three Gossips (but I like to call them the Three Stooges). Then we drove past Balanced Rock towards Windows and Turret Arch. The South and North Windows looked a bit like two giant eyes looking towards the La Sal Mountains. Most of us just went to sit in the nice shades of both Windows(it was quite hot in that desert like landscape) and saw from there Turret Arch. |
