So, watched the first couple RCW shows and am quite impressed. Some of the stuff actually made me want to jump off my couch and get on the phone with the company... Almost. Hell, I know better than to do that now.
Seeing Alex Martinez lumbering about to the ring, Chris Courtade in the ring going on and on about this and that, Devon Case kind of in a flux as to what he wants to do, and some of the others of the "Stop-Gap Class" between the Old School and New School kind of gave me a dose of reality about coming back. Even if healthy, with injuries and concerns gone, I don't think I could make that return. My time's been done for too long.
Maybe those guys just have a bad case of ring rust after sitting around for so long, but it was kind of a shame to see... I mean, I've never been fond of them, especially Alex & Chris, but I at least respected them as great competitors and performers before the E ended. But now, they just haven't clicked with me... Chris seems lost, same with Devon Case, and Martinez looks like he's reverting to his blueprint heel days of UEW. Again, ringrust and all, but I can only hope that that changes. I will admit that seeing Martinez try his hand at being a heel again is interesting.
Case will probably step it up quick. It looks like he's going the face route, but then again so does most of the roster in RCW - after so many years of Blue vs. whoever the big face at the time, any backtalk against an owner seems facelike. But there, even the heels are doing it, so I don't know. Seeing Case go face would be better than his heel role just to see something new from the guy.
Courtade's puzzling - he can still perform in the ring, but his mic skills have gone down a bit. Like I said, not a fan of the man, but he could deliver some great promos when he was on. When givne a good story to sell, he could roll with it. Maybe it's too early to judge him yet seeing as there's only been a start to his apparent Kinsey feud? Maybe, I'll give him time since it's harder to lose your mic skills than your in-ring performance.
It's kind of strange, this sport, this business - after about four years, you're considered old hash. The fans get tired of you, the up-and-comers get angry at you for not going onto the retirement years, and your body starts to give. Look at some of the guys who stuck it past four or so years in the "big time": Brody Thunder's a classic example. Was considered the great of greats, but now after sticking around past his "prime", he's kind of gone down a peg or two. But then there's guys like Spector, Tommy James, and Temple who defy the odds and stick around as long as possible.
And then again, maybe I'm just rambling on like I always did. I'm sure if Casey James, Tiger Claw, EVG, Joe Reed, and The Gremlin all came back, they'd be at the same level of greatness they always were... might take a couple of shows to shake the cobwebs out, but they'd be able to comeback... So, yeah, Courtade, Martinez, and Case'll probably come back too, in time...
Another pointless piece from,
