For those who know better, most of the following are easily discounted.
But for some, there is a grain of truth to the claims that have been
made.
- Is Big Tobacco experiencing a money crunch? Word is that Edmond
Winston IV was recently seen leaving a meeting with high-ranking bank
officials with a very disappointed look on his face. Whether this had
anything to do with his personal fortune or his ownership of the UWF
has yet to be determined but an inside source is claiming that
Winstons commercial credit rating has been reduced for reasons
unknown. Other rumors are flying about that this might be due to some
previously unknown lawsuits that EW4 has quietly settled but no one has
been able to produce verifiable information about this.
- The recent merger between American brewer Coors and the Canadian
brewery Molson's to produce the world's fifth largest producer of suds
is reportedly due to a huge increase in beer sales associated with the
group of UWF fans known as "Greece". These avid followers of The
Fraternity Boys are known for their consumption of beer and it is
supposedly in response to this dramatic rise in demand that the merger
of the two companies has taken place. Representatives for both Coors
and Molsons have, of course, denied these claims.
- Allison Ivey and Michael Augustine are reportedly considering getting
into the real estate business. An athletic facility on the outskirts of
Philadelphia has gone on the market and the Youngblood leaders were
seen visiting the gym along with a real estate agent. A UWF insider
claims that this was nothing more than mere chance as the two happened
to be going for a workout at the same time as the agent. But other
reports are surfacing that Augustine and Ivey may actually be
interested in purchasing the building although their reasons for doing
so remain unknown at this time.
- The Hands Of Death may have become, if possible, even more dangerous
as Jack Black, father of Cameron Black a.k.a. Caliban, was spotted
entering a training facility in which Serge Annis and Caliban were
known to be working out. Jack Black was the original mentor and trainer
of Annis when "The Epitome Of Evil" first began his wrestling career
although the two are known to have been at odds for many years. Does
this sighting mean that Calibans father has agreed to train the two?
Or was his presence in the area simply a coincidence? No one seems to
be saying.
- Alex Extreme's last disastrous foray into Hollywood seems to have
been forgotten as agents from Creative Artists, the largest talent
agency in the entertainment business, are alleged to have been in
contact with him. Creative Artists represent performers in a wide
variety of fields and any feelers that they might be extending in his
direction may not necessarily be involved with the film industry. But
it does seem that remnants of the bad blood between Extreme and
influential movie executives have been eliminated as the buzz in
Hollywood is that he might be receiving an offer to appear in a B-level
action film.
- UWF lawyers are said to be frantically scrambling to sort out
problems with the work permits for Jacob and Edward Drake, better known
as The Privateers. As Englishmen performing in the US, the Drake
brothers have never had serious immigration problems while working for
the UWF. But it seems that an omission in crucial paperwork has caused
an investigation to be launched. There is no word as to whether these
issues will result in The Privateers being forced to leave the US but
it is interesting to note that their sister, Lisa Drake, does not seem
to be experiencing the same difficulties.
- With Tigress winning the Meltdown Championship, Woman's Champion
Donna Tetrault is said to be considering moving into the men's division
herself. Backstage gossip has it that she is actively lobbying to
compete for the Rampage title as she has been overheard bragging that
she could defeat newcomer Rick Marley with relative ease. The
legitimacy of these claims, however, is suspect as she is also reported
to be lobbying Brian McKenzie to try competing for the woman's title.
This would indicate that the rumor might be nothing more than a
practical joke at McKenzie's expense.
- Is "The Last American Badass" Alex Martinez struggling with a bad
wheel? Throughout his career, hes been plagued by damage to his left
knee that has left him with chronic pain and a susceptibility to
injury. But a recent visit by the giant wrestler to a sports clinic has
some wondering whether the injured joint is finally starting to give
out on him? UWF marketers continue to promote Martinez as a vital and
active wrestler but observers are concerned that his career may finally
be cut short by permanent damage that he's suffered over countless
matches.
- Legal difficulties also troubled UWF puritan Jason Keening briefly as
he was recently detained at a domestic airport by security officials.
It seems that an overzealous guard mistook Keening's Native American
dark skin and features as marking him of Middle Eastern origin. That
error combined with the frequency with which Keening flies caused him
to be pulled aside for questioning. The mistake was quickly cleared up,
however, as another guard was a longtime UWF fan and recognized
Keening. Following a brief autograph session with the guards, he was
released and sent on his way with a minimal delay.
- "Dead End" Derek Martin doesn't seem to be a very sentimental guy
these days as he is said to have turned down an invitation by his old
high school to return for a special presentation of a lifetime
achievement award. Martin was a three-time Colorado state high school
wrestling champion but his general sense of embitterment appears to
have drained away any emotional attachment he might have felt towards
his alma mater. Officials at his former high school in Rocky Ford,
Colorado are reported to be extremely disappointed at his refusal and
may end up just sending him his lifetime achievement award in the mail.
