* Eve of Destruction is being hailed by officials as one of the most
successful events the company has ever held. In particular, the iron
man and cruiserweight matches have been singled out by company officials as
being particularly well done. However, it's generally felt that 14
matches may have been too much for a one night event and in the future the
promotion plans to limit their PPVs to 10 matches or less.
* Officials were also very happy at the surprise appearances of Jamie
Underwood and Strictly Business at the PPV, and that there were no
rumors in advance. It's expected that Underwood will continue to work with
Jessica "Fatality" Marshall on-air, as well as Edmond Winston. The
future of Strictly Business is not yet known, as officials don't know how
serious Tucker and Sebastian were with their statement about still being
retired.
* Rumors continue to circulate about the UWF's participation in
interfederation shows with other promotions. The company hasn't made
any official statements regarding an anticipated all-Canada show with
NEO-Pro and IWF/WOW, but has mentioned working another Rampage Bloody Rampage
show with MBC sometime in the future. However given that the UWF sent two
of it's stars to Japan for an offer match on an R-Type show that also
featured a NEO-Pro match, the All-Canada show has certainly not been ruled out.
* The cruiserweight division is starting to see some new blood injected
into it. After this past cycle which seemed to be a two-man battle
with Chris O'Brien and Michael Bonn waving the flag, Uriah Hawkins is ready
to return from injury and several new personalities are headed in from an
open call announced towards the end of 2003. One such newcomer that's
drawing a lot of early buzz is "Swinger" Troy Grace, a technical grappler from
North Carolina. Officials haven't said much about the division's lack of
competition lately, because most realize there isn't an actual lack of
talent, the pool has simply been dilluted with cruisers holding the
Rampage, North American and even World Titles until recently.
* Gold Rush 2004 is not expected to be held in late March, where it's
been ever since the company debuted in 1996. Instead it's looking like the
event, which has always been treated as the UWF's annual birthday
event, will be held in late April this year. No official word yet, but it's
assumed the Pontiac Silverdome will once again play host.
* The women's division continues to be a hot topic within the UWF, as
the talent pool continues to expand. The latest pickups are the masked
luchador-style Fantasy Girl and the cousin of wrestler Myra Benedict,
"Twilight Angel" Sonya Benedict. Some officials still feel the women
get too much exposure, particularly the 4 out of 14 matches from EoD
featuring the women. The official company position is that as long as there's a
demand from the fans, the women will continue to get the exposure they
deserve.
