Steve Spector Speaks

There! Finally finished putting together my new computer! It's a neat little machine too. I'll tell everybody the system specs one of these days.. got it because I like surfing the net in my freetime, and a friend of mine pointed me to this site.

Not bad.. I'm ranked #6 so far, behind Mark Langseth and a few other guys like Alex Martinez. That's cool.

I explore this site, seeing all the articles on wrestling, and one little debate seems to have captured my attention, the whole "Old Guard" debate.

Pleasantries aside.. here's my two cents of the whole situation.

I kind of find it ironic. I've been wrestling since I've been 17 years old. I'm 25 now.. pretty much not even supposed to be near the prime of my career yet. Although at times I feel much older due to the constant abuse my body has taken... but I'm still 25 years old.

I get called a has-been.. a tired act.. someone that should just go home. I'm 25 years old. I ain't going anywhere yet. I kinda find it funny that these people that say it are either older than I am that have been in this business for around the same time(or longer) that I've been doing this.. or a guy that doesn't even know how to pace or work a match correctly.

I don't mind new guys coming in and making a name for themselves. I've had a chance to work with Adam Rogers, and the guy is gonna be huge. He has a lot of knowledge, and is very humble. He can work, he deserves to be here, and he doesn't deserve to be left behind because he hasn't been around that long. He's earning at least my respect.

However, the people that use the tired act of calling me a tired act or a has-been will never earn my respect. They don't deserve it. They'll never prove that I'm a tired act, that I'm a has-been.. because I've worked with far better people than theya re. They couldn't even SNIFF the jockstraps of some of the guys I've had a pleasure of wrestling.

Try learning how to put together a five star match.. try learning how to put asses in the seats.. try learning how to work with broken body parts that never even finished healing yet.. and try coming up with better than first grade insults. You wanna be a name in this sport? Don't waste your damn time trying to insult the established names in the sport. Take an example from Rogers.

That's the only way you'll ever earn respect from me. _Work_ for the name you think you deserve.

Another thing.. while past titles and wins are important.. it's what in the present that's the most important thing. The past is nothing but memories, keep 'em that way.
