The Writings of Fred D.

Hey Fan Site readers, this is Fred D in what hopes to be a permentant fixture on this wrestling site. Some of you may not know about me since I've been out of wrestling for a couple years. I used to write for a couple wrestling magazines and worked for a certain place for a couple of years (I won't tell you where since I've got to keep this respectable). Anyway, enough about me, ok?

Some people out there think that there's only one place to see wrestling, the EMWC. But when you get past the LA fed, which is good in it's own right, you can see that there's some other feds out there that might just be doing better than the EMWC.

I could take a ribbing on this, but I personally think the UWF is the most well-rounded place out there. Some may think the talent has gone down over the duration of last year, but I believe that all that really happened was some dumping of lousy workers and unneeded salary. What they got in return were many good, young guys with decent skills. Now, when you get a whole bunch of new guys coming in, any place is going to experience a set back. That's what happened with the UWF for the better part of last year and thise year.

I can easily see that in the later parts of 2000 and for 2001, the UWF will be back to its great form that it had about a year and a half ago. The young guys they keep bringing in will start to mature into their roles, be better workers and do better interviews. So on that, all I can say is wait and you'll see that soon enough, Joel Valachi, Sabbeth, Caliban, Tommy Lionheart, Patrick Seeker, Damian Rose, Luke Sampson, and Chris Courtade become house hold names just like Reed, Daniels, Augustine, and Annis.

In addition to a young core of talent in the singles roster, it has a good number veterans like Joe Reed, Serge Annis, Scott Daniels, Youth Gone Wild, and Michael Augustine that call the Candaian promotion its home. Add that to Kyle Backwood, Chris Myers, and Kevin Slater and you've got a really good roster. In addition to that, UWF made some key acquisitions, particularly Quinn Brown and my favorite of all wrestlers, Rick Styles (sorry for showing a little bias). Brown adds some good mic work and in-ring style that's needed and Rick Styles adds everything and anything to every event. Both could, and should, become World Champions soon.

Many promotions out there like to talk about how it has a Cruiser division and a tag division. UWF, however, can easily say that they have the best of both. Their Cruiser division is full of great workers and always has been; the tag division is a real jewel as they have a solid 9-10 teams that could, on any given night, win the World Tag belts. Not many federations can say the same things as most have either a couple of tag teams that fight amongst each other every week or a tag division that's mostly just filled with single wrestlers stuck together.

And yes, there is the Women's division. I know many of you think it's a waste of time, but some of them girls can actually work the ring and do interviews that would make some interviews from male wrestlers boring. They don't take that much time, either, and the time that they get is well deserved.

So I suggest all of you out there go ahead and order the upcoming Pay Per View, Las Vegas: Summer of Sin, and just watch with an open mind.

From the Office of Fred D., Good Day.
