Greetings fellow James fans,
Once again, James have proven themselves to be the best band
alive. I've just returned from a stunning weekend of music,
highlighted by James' "secret" show in Carlisle on
August 21, and their less-than-spectacular performance at V98 in
Leeds. Although I, like many of you, have been disappointed by
their recent lack of variety, by their seeming need to milk the
success of the Best Of and by the less-than-spectacular
single entitled "Runaground," I had my faith restored
by a brilliant set which included not only some amazing
renditions of "Lullaby," and "Jam J," which
have not been present in recent setlists, but also by the
appearance of a new song entitled, "Surprise." If the
rest of the new material is up to this calibre then we can all
look forward to great things from James in 1999.
It's amazing how frustrations can suddenly disappear when
confronted with James on a good night, and seeing them not only
makes me ready to rush out to follow the tour in December,
despite lofty prices for the arenas, but it makes me remember why
it is we all love James in the first place, namely, because they
have been with us through all the highs and lows, and that they
are always there to comfort and to soothe, to exhilirate and to
excite. And this is what music should be in our lives.
As many of you have probably noticed by now, we've updated our look a bit, and will continue to work on bringing the rest of the page up to par, visually. There is also a new lyrics section, and a brand new guestbook, which I hope you will all sign. As always we are still looking for submissions as always. We want to hear ANYTHING you have to say about James and about how they've touched your lives. So send us your emails, and we look forward to seeing you out and about at some gigs in December.
Thanks,
JustHipper 8/24/98
