Chapter 4

Kelly closed the door softly behind her, careful not to make any noise. It was already two in the morning and Ubrina was sleeping. Kelly thought about the day's events and grinned happily, sighing contentedly to herself. It had been a good day and she had had fun. Joey was the most amazing guy she had met in a long time and he had shown her how much fun they could have together AND that he was not an airhead. They had talked about deeper subjects and joked around too and Kelly appreciated that in a man. She walked into her room and switched on the lights, only to find Ubrina asleep on her couch.

Ubrina rubbed her sleepy eyes and winced when she realized the light was shining brightly in her eyes. Kelly was backfinally. She had been gone the whole day, from morning 'til now, which was a little unusual for her. Usually she came back rather early, at around 11 when she went on a date. If they were on a date that was Ubrina was inquisitive and she wanted answers. Kelly was not going to get out of this one if she could help it. But first, Kelly NEEDED to switch off the damn lights. It was hurting her eyes and she wanted it to go away NOW.

"Kel What a pleasant surprise! I didn't think you'd be back at all. Why the sudden appearance? I was just enjoying have the house to myself, everything all mine. No mess, all my food, no missing clothes"

" Really? Well, too bad. I'm back and you're not getting rid of me anytime soon. Better get used to it. Besides, it's only two. It's not that late"

"Two a.m., Kel. No two p.m. As in two in the morning? Excuse me, but I think your brain is not in check. Must be all the making out you must have done today. Tsk, tsk your head's all screwed now. What a waste. Oh well, it's not like it had anything to begin with anyway. Anyway, can you switch off those damned lights? They're hurting my eyes." Ubrina grinned cheekily.

"Woah.. back up there. Who said anything about making out? Cause if I remember correctly, I didn't say anything about that. Yes, I know it's two in the morning. I can count Ubrina, unlike some people. Besides, if I'm screwed, you're worse. It's two in the morning and you're grilling me for info you're not even going to get. You know that and I know that. We also know that I am SO much smarter than you so stop kidding yourself. The truth isn't half bad when you come to face it. Anyway, you've been in denial wayy too long. All your life is too long. Wake up and face reality. Not like it's gonna change anytime soon anyway." Kelly cracked a half smile and switched off the lights, she herself feeling tired.

Ubrina rolled her eyes. "Yeah right. More like you're the one in denial. Too bad you're too deep in denial to notice that. I'm going to be nice and spare you this time. Have to remember that you are mentally retarded. Not everyone is half as smart as I am."

Kelly coughed violently, pretending to puke. "That'll be the day. Just keep telling yourself that. Your brain is warped enough already so I guess a little more rubbish won't kill it too much. Besides, there's nothing to kill but air. Okay, I've had enough. Now go. I need my sleep. I'm not gonna tell ya anything so you might as well scram."

"No way are you getting out of this, Kel. You went out with him for let's see more than 12 hours and you tell me I ain't getting anything from you? You have got to be kidding."

"No, I'm not. Now, just go away and let me sleep."

Ubrina started to protest but Kelly was quick enough to push her out of the door before she could resist and complain. Kelly slammed the door shut with satisfaction and went to change, laughing to herself. In the end, she would tell Ubrina every single tiny detail, but she wanted to have a little fun before she did that. Why give up all the information at once without getting Ubrina to beg for it? That would be too easy. Kelly laughed. She was being a bit mean but no one could blame her. Ubrina would have done the same thing if she was in Kelly's shoes. She wanted to make Ubrina die of curiousity before she volunteered the juicy details. That would take too long though. Tomorrow morning would be long enough for Ubrina. She would wonder what had happened throughout the night, aching for the information until it was given to her.

Kelly snuggled closer to her pillow and closed her eyes, falling asleep within seconds.

Kelly sauntered out of her room, a smirk on her face that Ubrina didn't like. She had tossed and turned that night, wondering what they had done during their date. She wanted the details. She was going to get them, even it was the last thing she did. She knew she was going to have to work for it and only then would Kel surrender it.

"Kel" Ubrina whined.

"Ubrina" Kel imitated.

"Tell me what happened on your date. Come on.. I'm your best friend"

"Yeah, so what? I don't have to tell you anything. It's my thing, not yours."

"But still I mean, you wouldn't have met him if not for me."

Kel raised her eyebrow. " Yeah right and remind me again, who was groaning and grumbling about how humiliated she was not too long ago when a guy's ass fell on her face? There's no way that was you right? Impossible. No, impossible of impossible. It'll be on 'Ripley's Believe It or Not'. No, the president would have to call and it'll have to be broadcasted all over the world, and people would stop whatever they were doing, just to listen and"

"Ok, ok. I get the point. Gosh. You are bad. Too much 'Gilmore Girls' is bad for health. Look at you! A psycho." Ubrina cut Kelly off.

"Wait I'm on a roll. And the world would stop and the sun would stop moving and the earth would stop revolving around the sun"

Ubrina waited for Kelly to finish, rolling her eyes. Finally, Kelly stopped, tired, having nothing left to say. She took a sip of her coffee and put her cup down." Yep, I'm living with a maniac."

"Oh, I wouldn't say that. No one would agree, especially not Joey." Kelly stopped a mischievous glint in her eye, an evil half smile on her face.

"Ok what was that supposed to mean? What did you do to that poor man? You must have robbed him of his sanity."

Kelly laughed. "Something like that. Let's just say he can never look at another woman again without thinking of that night." Kelly licked her lips at the memory, giving Ubrina a knowing look.

Ubrina widened her eyes. No, it was impossible that Kelly *ahem*-ed with Joey. Gosh, she hoped not. She shivered at the thought. No, her mind was not going to go there. It was too scary to comprehend.

Kelly knew where Ubrina's mind was going. Ubrina wasn't the most innocent girl around and Kelly knew fully well what she was implying. It was so obvious. Of course, she hadn't done that. She would never do something like that, especially not on their first date. That would have been too soon, making Kelly seem like a slut. That was a special union between two souls, not something you could play around with. It was serious and something she wasn't going to give up until she knew for sure it was right, until she got married.. at least, she hoped so.

"So, what did you all do?"

"Should I be nice and tell ya? I haven't made the most of my fun yet. Should I let you off and give in?"

"Yes, yes. Just tell, would you? I'm dying to know. Now, spill."

Kelly grinned at the eagerness on Ubrina's face. Fine, she was going to spill now, just this once. Next time it wouldn't be so easy to get it out of her. "What do you want to know?"

"What?! You want me to repeat my question for the millionth time? I've said it so many times already. What did you all do for such a long time? I want to know every single detail, every single one."

"Well, it was fun. I haven't met a guy like Joey for a long time. He is just so wonderful."

"Go on"

"We got rid of you guys"

"Yes, I know that. I could see you two glued mouth to mouth. I swear, we would need surgery to separate you all. You could get closer even if you tried."

"Oh, I think we could we could have, although not with so many people around."

Ubrina rolled her eyes.

"Anyway, he brought me to see a movie, then we went to the beach, then he brought me to a casual dinner and then clubbing. He is so perfect. We actually talked, not just superficial stuff, but deep conversations, meaningful things. We joked, talked, danced" Kelly stopped, a dreamy expression on her face.

Kelly might have been daydreaming, but she saw Ubrina's face fall. "That's it?" She asked.

"What? You expected more?"

"Yeah you were implying other things? So, did you actually do it?"

"What do you think?"

"I dunno"

"I'll leave it up to your imagination. I'm not going to leak out any info." Kelly got up from her chair and walked into her room to change out of clothes.

"Hey! Where you going?" Ubrina shouted.

"Out. "

"Again?"

"What? Anything wrong with that?"

"No, it's just that you went out yesterday."

"I know that."

"So?"

"So I'm going out again. I'll call before I come back if you want, MOM."

"No, DAUGHTER, that is not needed. Just tell me who you're going out with."

"Do you even need to ask?" Kelly asked as she walked out, combing her hair, dressed in clean clothes.

"Ok, so enlighten me. Where are you going?"

"What is this? 20 questions? I'm going to see Joey."

"No, it's not 20 questions, but I can make it 20 questions if you want. Where are you going to meet him?"

"At Jive. They're gonna be recording and Joey asked if I wanted to check it out."

"Oh"

"Wanna go with me? Chris is gonna be there"

Ubrina grinned. Ah, why the hell not? She had enjoyed their last meeting. It would be fun. "Ok, hold on while I go change."

" Ok, don't take too long though. I'm not gonna wait here forever."

"Ok, ok." Ubrina put her cup in the sink and raced into her room, hurrying to get changed.

In less than 5 minutes, Ubrina was out, wearing cargo pants and a shirt that fit just right. She looked at Kelly who was dressed in fitting black jeans and a red sleeveless top and raised an eyebrow. Kelly raised her right eyebrow in reply, as if to say, so?

They walked out of their apartment and entered the car, Kelly driving while Ubrina fiddled with the radio.

They reached the studio and wandered in, unsure of where to go. Joey had said something about turning left after they entered and going into recording studio 3. Ubrina and Kelly entered, half anticipating someone to start scolding them for entering the wrong recording studio and was greatly relieved to find that they were welcomed by a set of hugs, a lingering one for Kelly from Joey.

Chris grinned foolishly. She was here. Now he was happy, no more like on cloud nine. He gave her a big bear hug and was delighted when she returned the hug. He inhaled the sweet smell of her shampoo, reluctant to let go.

Ubrina hugged Chris and was surprised to find it so comforting. It was a perfect fit and her heart skipped a few beats. If only he didn't have to let go. That would be heaven.

The rest of the guys caught some of the looks Ubrina and Chris were giving one another and grinned knowingly. They weren't going to get together that easily. Even if they did, they were going to take a hundred years and none of them could wait that long. What they needed was a little help Yes, a little extra help.
