| Chapter Five Author�s note: Sorry if I took too long with this chapter. Not that I was at a loss for ideas or anything. In fact, it was just the opposite. Ju and I came up with really good, sorry, WICKED stuff for the next few chapters. *Grins evilly* Ubrina, don�t you just HATE us? Anyway, I was sorta stuck because I suddenly became very well accquainted with my old friend, writer�s block. Enjoy! Oh yeah, before I forget, this might sound a bit slashy because the idea of JC and Lance in the same car, totally alone, made me go on slashy mood. Blame Julianne. It was her fault. However, much as I regret saying this, JC and Lance are in no way less than 100% straight in this story. So don�t get the wrong idea and think that they are secretly crushing on each other. Thanks. �Thank GOD we are finally out of that hell-hole!� �You know, Lance, if I didn�t know any better, I�d say you hated singing,� JC smirked, shutting the door to the recording room. Lance yawned as he stretched his body, getting the kinks out of his neck. �I don�t hate singing,� Lance insisted, �It�s getting the recording sessions �JC-approved� that I�ve had enough of.� JC punched Lance affectionately on the shoulder before slinging his arm around the blond�s neck and dropping his head tiredly on Lance�s shoulder. �Hey Ubrina,� he greeted, remembering the smartass waitress from the few nights ago. �Have you and Kelly waited long?� Ubrina raised her eyebrows pointedly at Kelly. �And he knows our names because�?� Kelly laughed and tilted her head to smile at Joey as she replied, �Let�s just say we�re pretty much old friends now.� Ubrina chuckled before nodding her greetings to the five charming, good-looking men. She had heard of N�sync before, but hadn�t thought much of it at the time. Now that she thought about it, she had to admit that the guys sported amazing vocals. �Nice to meet you.� Chris grinned, tipping an imaginary hat at Ubrina, realizing quickly that she was a �people person�. She was the life of a party, enjoying other people�s company as much as they enjoyed hers. JC nudged Lance and gave Chris a pointed look. There was a hungry, longing expression on the older man�s face as he watched Justin and Ubrina converse and Lance shot him a grin, making Chris blush. Joey, who was kissing Kelly quietly and Justin, who was still making small talk with Ubrina, looked up at JC when the brunette cleared his throat, a smile on both their faces. Getting the hint, Justin stood and gallantly offered his arm to Ubrina, �You�ve been waiting for us all morning. Do you, y�know, wanna join us for a meal or something?� �Sure!� Ubrina nodded, accepting Justin�s arm and giggling at the half-goofy, half-jealous smile on Chris� face. �I�m going in C�s jeep!� Lance yelled as he ran out of Jive with the brunette, laughing wildly. Justin waved a hand dismissively and shouted back, �Got it!� Joey, Kelly, Chris and Ubrina piled into Justin�s BMW, with Justin at the wheel and Kelly in the front passenger seat. Joey gave Justin a look that clearly read �don�t-touch-my-girl� before seating himself beside Ubrina, forcing her closer toward Chris. �Hi,� Chris mumbled, trying to ignore the delicious pressure of Ubrina�s body crushed against his own. �Hey,� Ubrina replied, feeling a soft blush creep up her neck. They rode in silence for a few minutes before Justin swerved abruptly, throwing Ubrina into Chris� lap. �Sorry, sorry�� Justin said, smiling apologetically. But Chris didn�t miss the hint of mischief in Justin�s sparkling blue eyes. That little rascal! Chris thought to himself, unable to help the grin that was spreading slowly across his face. I love him to death! Inwardly, Joey grinned at both Chris� and Ubrina�s stunned but pleased looks, before catching Justin�s eye and winking secretly. �Uh� I think I should get up now?� Ubrina said softly, though it was more of a question than a statement. With abated breath, three of the four people in the car waited for Chris� answer. �Actually�� Chris started nervously, before licking his lips. �Actually, I�m pretty comfortable.� With a wicked smile, Ubrina relaxed on Chris� thigh. �Hey, guess what? I�m pretty cosy myself!� Chris almost couldn�t hide his excitement. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As they parked the car, Chris let out a sigh. �Aww man,� he whined as Ubrina got off of his lap reluctantly. �I was really starting to get comfy there.� �You�ll be more at ease inside,� Justin reassured him, giving Ubrina a devillish grin that made her blush. When they got inside the caf�, JC waved wildly from the corner table he had gotten. The five made their way over to the table and they had to stifle their laughter when �Tearin� Up My Heart� began to blast over the radios. The dance floor was pretty empty and Lance giggled when JC pulled him to his feet. Justin grabbed the hand of an older fan, who was smiling coyly at him, while Joey held onto Kelly�s hand. �Hey, imagine that. You make it an even number, Ubrina! Now you just need to get a partner!� The six then stepped away from Chris. Ubrina shook her head, knowing what the guys were up to. She smiled at their gesture, and sighed before saying, �Let me guess,� she muttered under her breath but faked a tone of discovery as she turned to Chris, the lone man for the night. �Oh, wow! Chris, you wouldn�t happen to already have a dancing partner, would you?� Everyone besides Chris and Ubrina shook their heads. Chris rolled his eyes and shook his head, �Actually, I don�t dance.� Ubrina�s eyes were wide with amusement. �You don�t dance and you found a twin to replace you on stage? I am amazed.� Chris coloured a deep red as he cleared his throat, �Nah, actually, I just don�t really enjoy dancing to our songs if we�re not onstage.� Ubrina pulled on his hand as the guys began to dance, leaving the two party poopers alone. �C�mon, big guy, it�ll be fun!� Chris sighed. Why, why, WHY does she have to be so irresistible? Chris wondered to himself as he allowed the giggling Ubrina to pull him onto the dance floor. The song finally came to an end just as Ubrina and Chris stepped onto the dance floor. �Dammit,� Justin cursed, under his breath, ignoring the blond he was dancing with for the moment. Luckily they heard the DJ announce, �This session with me is a session to N�joy. Cos we�ve got the next hour and a half booked with N�sync hits! N�sync has recently released their latest album � No Strings Attached. It�s selling fast and furious. So make sure you grab a copy of your own. All right, now here�s N�sync with Bye Bye Bye.� As the music blared over the speakers yet again, Ubrina grabbed Chris� hand and the two began to fast-dance, Ubrina giggling furiously. Chris was a great dancer, especially since he was almost too familiar with the music. The rehearsals helped too. Ubrina� well, she was always up for challenges of any sort. And Chris� dancing was DEFINITELY stimulating. For the next forty five minutes, the two grooved to the upbeat music, adrenaline flowing through their bodies. �I think there�s been enough screaming and wildness for a little while, so why don�t we cool things down a bit with �This I Promise You�?� the DJ said finally. The couples began trickling onto the dance floor like bees to a honey tree. Yep, that song was ABSOLUTELY a hit. Ubrina looked at Chris expectantly. Her cheeks were flushed and she was breathing hard, with Chris almost taking her lead. �Um, you wanna try a slow dance this time?� Chris asked softly. �Sure,� Ubrina replied, then kicked herself for sounding so intrigued. What if he thinks I�m desperate or something? Or what if he thinks that I�m an excited TEENY person? Chris licked his lips nervously as he gently rested his hands on Ubrina waist. She was about his height, maybe a little shorter, but she seemed to fit perfectly in his arms. For Ubrina, however, it was a different case completely. She had no inkling whatsoever about where to put her hands or if she should look at Chris or if she should lean closer toward him. She was hopelessly lost. Chris smiled at her discomfort before releasing her waist and taking her hands in his and resting them on his shoulders. �Better?� Ubrina blushed and nodded, not looking at Chris. The floor tiles suddenly became very appealing. Chris� hands resumed their position on her waist. They leaned close, but not too close. The music played softly in the background and Ubrina soon became engrossed in her own thoughts, hoping that Chris liked her, hoping that Chris was enjoying himself as much as she was, hoping, hoping, hoping� �Wooooo!� a shrill yell followed by a chorus of catcalls shook Ubrina from her reverie. She stared up in mild shock at Chris and their eyes locked. They looked away abruptly, hands releasing each other as they turned to the other guys. Ubrina rolled her eyes at their excited looks. �YOU guys stuck me with the old man. So don�t start!� Ubrina warned, before winking at Chris to show she was kidding. �And just who are YOU to whine?� Chris retorted playfully. �I didn�t see you complaining when you were having the helluva good time out there on the dance floor. And who was your dancing partner? Oh, surprise surprise! Why, it was little old me!� Ubrina smiled sweetly and batted her eyelashes coyly at Chris, �Oh all right. I give in. You�re a damn good dancer and we had a fiinnneee time.� She cocked her head and put her hands on her hips. �Happy now?� �Nope.� Chris grinned. �And why not?� By this time, Kelly, Joey, Justin, JC and Lance were watching the two converse, almost laughing at the absurdity of it all. The two were so caught up in their banter that neither saw the mischievous grins and thumbs-up signals the others exchanged. As Chris leaned closer to Ubrina, he caught a whiff of her perfume and almost laughed giddily. He couldn�t believe what he was doing, but he was on high. The blood was pounding loudly in his ears and he KNEW he was going to do something stupid. He just KNEW. That didn�t mean he wasn�t going to do it. As their lips came into contact, Ubrina almost swooned. Chris� lips brushed lightly against hers before he pulled back, smiling at the dazed look on her face. She was still trying to imprint every detail of their kiss firmly in her mind. The guys stared at Chris as if he had lost his mind while Kelly just smiled knowingly. Ubrina finally raised an eyebrow at Chris, as if to say, �So?� �So NOW I�m happy.� End. |
