Doumoto Tsuyoshi, possibly the most popular actor in Japan among young girls right now, is cute, funny, a talented actor, and a great singer/songwriter. The down-to-earth, "boy next door" image he projects is probably what makes him so popular. Although he is often described as an "Oyaji" (old man) by his female co-stars, this is somehow found as quite charming. It is known that Tsuyoshi is currently looking for a girlfriend, his past relationship with Tomosaka Rie ended abruptly when he found that she was "a little too ditzy" for him to handle. Since then (that was like 5 or 4 years ago), there has not been much news about a special girl in his life.
Tsuyoshi has said before that he hardly spoke a word with Fukada Kyoko while shooting "To Heart". The first of their rare conversations was the following:
Kyoko: "Tsuyoshi-san, teachers said that you did good in school."
(Kyoko goes to the same school that Tsuyoshi went to)
Tsuyoshi: "Really? Did they say that I like Doraemon too?"
Kyoko: "Yes"
Tsuyoshi: "So, is it hard to ballance school and work at the same time?"
Kyoko: "Yes"
Tsuyoshi: "........."
The conversation ended there. Tsuyoshi and Kyoko didn't talk much after that, but they did talk about playing  guitar once. Kyoko told Tsuyoshi that she just bought a guitar and she wanted to learn how to play it. Tsuyoshi, who is a very good guitar player, tried to help her out by kindly drawing out all of the cords she should know. A couple weeks later Tsuyoshi asked Kyoko about her progress with the guitar and she replied, "I put my guitar somewhere up high, and I can't reach it anymore..." Tsuyoshi said he was a little disappointed.
So how is Kyoko's guitar playing going now you ask? Not very far since she just gave it away...but at least she still has the paper with all of the sketched cords that Tsuyoshi gave her!
Tsuyoshi got along better with Hirouse Ryoko during the filming of "Summer Snow", however Abe Natsumi of Morning Musume is supposedly a "Fukada Kyoko #2" because they hardly talked during the shooting of "Aiken Roshiante No Sainan". The reason behind this is because Tsuyoshi is not the assertive type who approaches a person first. So in Kyoko and Natsumi's case, probably bothTsuyoshi and the girls were waiting for the other to start the conversation first...and before they knew it, filming was over!
Tsuyoshi is a very indoor person. On his days off from work, he spends the day at home hardly moving a cm. (Kinda like me...hehe) His new year's resolution for this year was to go out more often. He commented in a magazine article, "I finally realized I should live life to the fullest". Perhaps because of this living habbit of eating and sleeping, Tsuyoshi has gained some weight. He recently admitted on "Utaban" that he gained 2.5 Kg . This may come from stress as well, since Tsuyoshi seems a little tired and overworked recently. On the Christmas special of "Pop Jam", Tsuyoshi totally forgot his song lyrics while singing "Cinderella Christmas", which is quite uncommon. Kouichi must have been worried about him, because he sent Tsuyoshi backstage right away after the performance saying that Tsuyoshi hadn't slept for days. However luckily, Tsuyoshi came back on stage a while later  looking a little more refreshed. Whew! Tsuyoshi is also known to have a weak stomach since he was little. He's weak to pressure, and Kouichi commented before, "I think he gets stomach aches from taking so much stomach medicine!".
Tsuyoshi's current biggest love of his life is his pet Dutchhound, Kenshirou. Tsuyoshi once talked about an incident with Kenshirou in the magazine "Potato":
"The other night Kenshirou fell into the bathtub. While I was washing my hair, I heard this big splash and when I looked at the bathtub, Kenshirou was inside of it, all struggling. (laughs) He immediately managed to get out, but I'm sure he must have had quite a scare! It reminded me of an incident when I was in 2nd grade and I fell into a dirty creek on my bike. I went home crying and my Mom and Dad started laughing at me. At the time I thought, "What cruel people! After all this pain I'm going through, all they do is laugh?!" But now I found myself in their shoes, laughing my head off at Kenshirou, even though he must have felt terrible!(laugh)"
Tsuyoshi's career as a musician has really improved over the years. Since "Love Love Aishiteru" started, he has been given a lot of good opportunities to grow musically. Tsuyoshi has written quite a few songs over the past 5 years. Some of his original and beautiful ballads include "Yasashisa Mune Ni Daite" (Embrace Kindness to the Heart), "Slowly", "Samazama Na Ai" (All Kinds of Love) and "Jyunigatsu" (December). He has also co-written "The Night Before Your Birthday", and wrote the lyrics to "Suki Ni Natteku, Aishiteku" (Starting to Like, Starting to Love). There have been rumors that Tsuyoshi and Kouichi will both release solo albums in the future....this may be something to look forward to.
