Featured Dilemma:
DGN to DWG - Microstation to AutoCAD convertion
I get at least 1 Email per week on this subject and apperently I've left out 2 important pieces to this page:

1. You can get DGNLinkLite from http://www.decisiongraphics.com/ - Decisiongraphics discontinued DGNLinkLite for awhile and you could only buy the full version (DGNLink) but, they have re-instated it lately.

2. As I have been informed from Bentley themselves MicroStation V8 supports both DGN and DWG
see
http://www.bentley.com/products/microstation/ for more information.

If you are like me and would Bentley to produce a new program that would do just the conversion of DGN to DWG or DWG to DGN please do what I did and send them an Email. All their contact information is at their website.
For those of you who don't know what Microstation is (for the rest of you can skip over this), Microstation is another CAD program that is made by Bentley. I suppose you could consider it Autodesk's competition.
The best way that I have found to convert Microstation drawings (DGN's) to AutoCAD drawings (DWG's) is to save as DWG in Microstation. There are a few 3rd party converters on the market. I have tried DGNLinklite but, I found that not all the drawing entities came acrost into AutoCAD. DGNLinkLite just excluded about half of the drawing entities.
I did come acrost a bug with converting files this way. The bug was with regular polylines. The polylines would not trim and refused to be broken. To fix this I converted the polylines into LTpolylines and had no more problems with them.

Good Luck
Jim
Jim,

What is the best way to convert micro station files into cadd files?..and be able to read it?

If you have found a 3rd party software for converting these files, that works well, I would be glad to hear from you.
