| Welcome to "Jung and Me," a website devoted to Synchronicity and its application to cinema and music. Synchronicity is essentially the belief that there are no coincidences, fancied up by a Mr. Carl Jung and described as two independent events that come together to form a union of some kind. Don't worry, "Jung and Me" desires no relationship with any spiritual world or some sort of mystical universal guide as you might find, but I do not deny that sometimes, in the case of these movies, Synchronicities seem to be led by something that is not of us. I won't pretend to know anything about Carl Jung's theories, except what I am told, and hopefully with research this website will grow to include that information. Synchronicity in cinema is not uncommon; in fact, movie directors and composers work hard to manipulate their creations so that the sight and sound are one, that the music may complement the movement, and vice versa. However, it is the unintentional Synchronicities that strike the eye of Synchronizers. Somewhere, in the life of a synchronizer, he will stumble upon a piece of music and a film that may or may not be linked idealogically, but in artistic beauty are identical. This makes Synchronicity a delicate, personal, and sometimes individual effort that only the Synchronizer himself might truly understand. Sometimes I will start a movie but leave the audio for the television on another movie, and the results can be startling. This is a once in a lifetime Synch, and are more therapeutic than beautiful. Luckily, since most traditional synchs consist of film and music that are available widely, other Synchronizers (for this term includes mere audience members of Synchronizations since they are participating in the act) are free to attempt to recreate the efforts of the Creator. So I stand before you as both a Synchronizer and a Creator of Synchs hoping to clear the air for you to create Synchronizations yourself, and to share with you my own. I also hope to spread knowledge of the very popular and truthfully best Synchs, those whose value will never be attained by intentionally created Synchs. If you're new to Synchronicity, please read the Facts page to get started. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me. Evan T. Burchfield Webmaster and Editor [email protected] |
