| 1. According to the Constitution of Bangladesh and Rules made thereunder, the state guarantees the safety of life and property of all the returnees and their family members. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| 15. A general amnesty for those convicted in different criminal cases during insurgency. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 16. All returnee ‘Headmen’ (of village councils) to be reinstated in their previous positions. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 17. Preferential treatment for the tribal people in all walks of life. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 18. Almost all refugees have returned by now and the rehabilitation operation is in full swing. The Prime Minister is supervising it herself. An allocation of US $ 36.00 million have been amide to meet the initial requirements of rehabilitating 43,000 refugees. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| 19. The following short term projects are now under implementation (total investment of around $ 65 million) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| A. Reconstruction of old physical infrastructures | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| B. Production and Employment Generating Activities: repair of village roads, construction of newroads, tree plantation, etc., food for works programme C. Microcredit, through Bangladesh Rural Development Board |

| 20. In addition a portfolio of medium and long term development projects are under preparation in the different ministries of the government in general and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry in particular. Major aid donors and multilateral development agencies like the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the UNDP, Food & Agriculture Organization of the UN etc. have shown keen interest in funding these projects. A major thrust in tourism development is also planned. It is expected that very soon this area would be the hub of unprecedented development activities. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 21. And all in this has been made possible by just one person- Sheikh Hasina, the incorrigible democrat and visionary Prime Minister of Bangladesh | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
