The Lighthouse Series
Barbados's four compass points are dotted by 19th century lighthouses, now sadly in disuse and disrepair. Harrison's Point is the northernmost lighthouse; East Point is another stone structure; South Point is the only iron lighthouse on the island; Needhams Point on the Southwest coast is the oldest and is an octagon of stone.
Each lighthouse (except Needhams Point) is accompanied by living quarters for its keeper, now disused or in ruins. This ongoing series is an attempt to preserve this aspect of Barbadian heritage and to bring attention to the need for their conservation. And lighthouses are striking and often quite beautiful subjects for painting and drawing...
