The Maddie Report

Christmas is almost here and Maddie is ready.  She is sooooo excited.  She has seen Santa 3 times.  Here are the stories of each of her visits with Santa:

The first time was at the mall.  Maddie insisted that we see Santa.  So we got in line and waited our turn.  The whole time she was yelling Hey Santa Caws!  Hey Santa Caws!  I could barely hold her back.  Finally, it was our turn.  Amber was with us and she went first.  Maddie watched and was in awe.  Maddie ran up to Santa and he reached down to put her on his lap and she started backing up.  She would not sit on his lap but she stood beside me and told him what she wanted.  A baby doll and Barney stuff.

Santa came and gave out presents at church again this year.  She knew he was coming and she promised to sit on his lap.  Santa came in and made a bee line for Maddie.  Her eyes were big as saucers.  He patted her on the head and she began to cry.  She clung to me for dear life.  Santa started handing out presents and I thought this would entice her to talk to him.  Wrong again.  Her name was called out and she immediately started to scream.  I ended up having to sit on his lap with her screaming in my arms.  Once we got back to our seat, she opened her present and there was candy inside.  She pulled out a sucker and opened it.  I told her that that was what Santa gave her and she needed to thank him.  She went down to where he was and said, "See my sucker, Santa.  Thank you!".  All of the other babies there cried when they saw Santa, too.

I gave her one more chance.  Santa was visiting the library and once again she promised to sit on his lap.  The child lies.  She wouldn't get near him.  She stayed about 10 feet away at all times.  She would yell to him from across the room what she wanted.  Oh well, maybe next year.
