Chapter 4

The bell rang and students poured into the hallways of Sweet Valley High. Enid leaned against her locker, waiting for Liz to show up. She was worried about her. Liz was starting to tune out, often with a distant look in her eyes. Enid though she was missing Todd. Theyd broken up awhile ago when he kissed another girl.

She and Jess had gotten together to devise a plan to cheer Liz up. For Jess it merely meant spending more time lumping her problems onto her sister. But for Enid, it was merely spending time with Liz away from things that reminded her of Todd.

Lila Fowler walked past, a smile playing on her lips as she looked at Lizs locker. Enid saw it as a bemused attack on herself. She frowned, her eyes following Lila as she walked down the hallway. What a bitch.

Finally, Liz showed up, quickly putting in her combination number.

Hey, Enid, she said brightly, her eyes showing her lack of enthusiasm. Enid bit her lip.

Hey Liz, how was your weekend? Liz stiffened, her eyes instantly darkening, before a blank look overcame her.

Fine. It was good, she said before locking her locker. Turning to Enid, she smiled and began heading towards her homeroom. Enid sighed, and followed Liz down the hallway.

Jess leaned against the mirror in the bathroom, awaiting Lilas arrival. They never did something as daggy as waiting outside lockers.

Jess had noticed Lila was a bit distant lately. But her parents had gone off to Europe for a while, leaving her alone with the housekeeper. Sighing, Jess realized that it was just like old times when her mother wasnt around. That was the problem.

The door opened and Lila glided inside. Quickly exchanging hellos, they checked their makeup and headed back out into the thinning crowds of SVH.

Lila watched Liz in French class, wishing they were the only ones in the room. Shed rip her clothes off and gently lay her on top of the table, before making love to her over and over again. She had to physically stop herself from getting up and rushing over to Liz.

The bell rang, signaling the end of class. Lila instantly jumped up and stood next to Liz. She saw her heavy breathing. They waited until the class emptied.

Hey, Lila, Liz said quietly. Lila pulled her close and softly stroked her hair.

Hi, Liz. I missed you. Tenderly, she kissed her lover, enjoying the feel of Lizs tongue in her mouth. Their bodies pressed closer together as the kiss deepened, both wanting more but not allowed to have it. Lizs back started circling Lilas back, creeping under her silk shirt. Lila responded by grasping Lizs head in her hands and kissing her harder.

Finally, they broke it off. Liz whimpered with disappointment.

Lets skip this class, go to the bathroom and just go off, she whispered, holding onto Lila as if for dear life.

With tears in her eyes, Lila shook her head.

No. theres something special between us. I want it to be special. Liz looked into Lilas eyes. Youre the most important thing in my life. Were not going to degrade that by slipping off to some dingy toilet. Liz smiled and again pressed her lips against Lilas. They remained that way for several minutes.

Neither of them noticed the solitary figure standing in the doorway, eyes wide with surprise.

Jessica sat in her English class, ignoring Matts attempts to apologise. Instead she turned to Todd who was sitting next to her.

I hate barbarians like that, she told him, flicking an eye towards Matt.

Todd immediately turned around. With a single eyebrow, he warned Matt away from Jess. Turning back, he grinned at her.

Thanks, Todd, she purred. He smiled.

Anytime, Jess. He grasped her hand and kissed it. Jessica was beginning to understand why Liz had liked him. He was so chivalrous!

Todd, why did you ignore me after we kissed? she asked him quietly. Although it was common knowledge that Todds kiss had broken up the relationship, nobody knew he had kissed her twin sister.

Todd stared at her, drinking in her physical beauty, before responding.

I needed time to get over Liz before starting a new relationship, Jess, he told her, carefully tucking a piece of hair behind her ear.

If you kissed me, you were over her, she boldy told him, licking her lips. Todd stared at her lips, but turned away. He didnt want the class to think there was anything more between them than an amicable friendship. Briefly, he turned back to Jessica.

IF you want to know the truth, come to my house tonight, he whispered. Jessica nodded before turning back to her bag. She didnt want him to know how excited shed gotten by his words, or from the movement on her lips. She was going to play it cool, and let him think she was only barely interested. Shed never let him think that all she wanted was him.
